Coffee Drinking

Women who drink at least one cup of coffee a day greatly reduce their depression.  I seem to recall that is it like 40% less likely to commit suicide, but don't quote me on this statistic, as I am relying on memory, not fact.  I don't recall if there was a statistic about how few commit homicide...but most of us know that anything that reduces suicidal ideation in us will reduce the number of people we want to kill on any given day...heehehee.

Many people who have had WLS find that coffee helps their stomach to relax.  It is probably because of the warmth.

Coffee is very good for you, because it has antioxidants.  You can drink red wine for the antioxidants, but then, you have to deal with the cross addiction  to alcohol...not a really good outcome.  Besides, you can now get really profoundly drunk on much less alcohol than you can imagine.

Coffee is available almost everywhere...thanks to people like Starbucks.

Coffee generates as much talking as almost any other drink.

You can brew huge pots of it for very little money.

You can drink it on the job and not get into trouble for drinking on the job.

You can also drink coffee and drive.

However, if you drink too much, you may lose sleep.

Now, many of us with WLS has chosen to invest in those coffee pots that have grinders and grind our own beans.  WE have developed a whole net work of interesting places to buy flavored coffees and favorite blends.  My own favorite is Target.

And the reputed (that means we don't know if what they say is true or not) most expensive coffee in the world is Kona.  You can get kona blends here, but the real thing is very expensive and is available in Hawaii.  I am sure they ship it other places, too.  I have had the real thing once...it was nice...but Maxwell House works just as well for me.

You get less bitterness if you use filtered water to make your coffee.  However, some of us cannot tell the difference and if it doesn't walk off the table by itself we are not sure we are drinking coffee.

Anyway, drink coffee, it is good for you.

Hi Karla,

I don't want to put a damper on the coffee drinking, but the newbies need to remember that there is caffiene in coffee.  Caffiene is dehydrating which can be dangerous for newbies.

For every ounce of liquid with caffiene, you must replace it with an ounce of non-caffiene liquid.  This is in addition to the 64 ounces already required to avoid dehydration.

As someone who still, after 5 years, struggles to get enough liquids to avoid dehydration, please be careful when drinking caffiene!

The good news is Coffee can be purchased in Decaffinated (sp) varieties!  There may not be as many, but there are also the flavored creamers that come in non fat and sugar free!!

Just thought this was something the newbies as well as some of the "seasoned" post-ops may want to know.

Christ's peace,
