Pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)
The Bible commands us to pray for the person who hurts us. It is easy to pray for someone who is good to us, but I know I have found it hard to pray for someone who has hurt me and truly mean the prayer. However, by doing this and being sincere, our focus is drawn away from our hurt feelings and it moves on to something positive and beneficial to us. We also are wise to ask the Lord to heal our hearts. Ask Him to reveal the lesson we might learn from the wounding we have experienced. We must ask the Lord to help us forgive the other person. And then, knowing that we have done all the Lord has asked of us, and fully expecting Him to heal us, restore us, and strengthn us...then we must move forward with confidence and faith and His peace. We are not to dwell on the hurt by having self-pity, telling others about it or just brooding over it. I have done this in the past, but I am learning that by giving it to God and moving on, I feel so much better. I do not have to carry the load of unforgiveness with me. That is such a heavy heavy load to bear. Give it to God and ask Him to fill you with His joy.
