Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties. (Psalm 139:23)
Once we have developed an intimate relationship with the Lord, the process required for the healing of our old wounds become less painful. The most painful part of the healing process is nearly always the initial breaking of our stubborn pride. I know that is mine, anyway. The more we trust Him to produce in us the nature and character of Christ Jesus, the faster and the less painful the emotional healing process becomes. The layers of wounds are peeled from us like the layers of an onion (taken from a friend of mine). The layers in the soul become ... more tender, and they give way more readily to God's loving and forgiving presence. However, for many years, I did not understand that I could have an intimate relationship with Christ. I prayed a little and I read my Bible some, but He was not the priority in my life, nor was what He wanted for me. However, once I developed a relationship with Him, things changed. I began to learn that I actually had needs that I could not fix, problems I could not overcome, and situations that only could be solved by Him. Our relationship with Christ should make us excited, want to learn more, and just plain happy. The more we learn about Him, the more we should want to learn. He wants to heal us today. I ask myself today, who is number one in my life and what has top priority? After all, He does know my heart.
