14"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. 15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. 19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. 21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." (Revelation 3:14-22)
Have you ever accidently poured a glass of water from the sink and taken a drink and it was lukewarm? I have and it comes right back out. I want my water cold most of the time, but no warm or lukewarm water for me. On the same token, we cannot walk in the ways of man and be a Christian. We must decide if we want to walk in the steps of Christ or man. I use to be ashamed or uncomfortable to talk about my Savior. Then one day it dawned on me...why am I uncomfortable. He was so very uncomfortable on that cross, but He proceeded to go through with the suffering for me. I cannot be ashamed or uncomfortable to speak of Him.
There are those who think that because they have much material wealth on this earth, they have it all. However, our treasures should be stored up in Heaven, not on earth. Because the Word tells us that things here will be destroyed and will decay. I was asked a question yesterday. The person asked me why bad things happen to Christian people and non-Christians were often rich and had much. My answer to her was one I was told many years ago when my father died. A Christian has Heaven to look forward to and the rewards there. However, for a person who dies without Christ, this will be the only heaven they ever know. How sad, but true.
We are told that the church at Laodicea was lukewarm...neither hot not cold. There was nothing good said about this church. In fact, it is the only church mentioned that there was nothing good said about. I pray that when Jesus looks at me, He does not see lukewarm. Do we really love Him??

A timely and insightful post. I believe it would preach--if one were a preacher.
