I was recently diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and my Rhuematologist has put me on low dose Prednisone for 6 weeks. My Rny surgeon is aware of my condition and just told me to take Carafate before I take the Prednisone. I'm worried. Don't steroids make you gain weight and grow hair in odd places. Has anyone had to take steroids after Rny and what was your outcome.

Every time I ever had a steroid shot, I gained weight and it was the devil to get back off too.  No more steroid shots for me. I'm also diabetic and they would run my sugar up so bad.  Good luck Amy.

I was insulin dependant before surgery my sugars still not right but I'm not taking any meds for it, I bet I have to get back on meds now.

No weight gain for me while I was on steroids but I didn't eat much at the time. And since I was on chemo I didn't grow any hair. LOL I probably wouldn't have minded that. I mean there was none - NOWHERE!!! I thought the eyelashes was bad enough but when I lost the eyebrows I really felt naked.

Anyway, my situation was not normal. I do hope that you have good results and that the weight gain will be minimal. You do what you have to do to stay healthy. We don't like gaining weight but if the steroids are helping the other problem then just remember that the weight can be lost after you are finished with the treatment. I have rheumatoid arthritus and I know the pain that comes with it. Relief may be costly but it is worth it. Don't think about the bad points - think about how much good it will do you.
