I am thinking of joining WW this week.... I've had some regain and am not comfortable with where this is heading... I've slacked on exercise and gotten way less disciplined about my food choices... I'm so disappointed in myself but want to get back on track.  I feel like the weekly weigh ins could help.  Especially since I am very competitive.  Any thoughts on this?  Any one else try it to get back on track?

I HATE THE THOUGHT OF COUNTING POINTS AND ALL THAT STUFF.  JUST REMEMBER WE ALL DID WHEN WE FIRST STARTED OUT AFTER WLS.  GO BACK TO THE BASICS.  WATER, WATER, WATER, LOTS OF PROTEIN AND WALK WALK WALK. I THINK THAT'S ALL YOU WILL NEED TO DO.  I'VE GAINED OFF AND ON OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS AND WHEN I GO BACK TO THE BASICS OF WLS, I CAN LOSE IT ALL AGAIN AND THEN SOME.

MY BEST TO YOU,

ELLE

Hi Candice,

I haven't been on line this weekend but I just saw this and wanted to respond.

I think you should do whatever you feel is the best thing for you.  If you feel the weekly weigh ins will work for you, then go for it.

Today is my five year surgiversary and I started out at 309lbs that morning at the hospital.  My lowest was my goal, 150lbs.  Everyone said I was too skinny and I fell into listening to them so when my weight started to creep up, I let those voices in my head say, "You're too thin anyway, so whats two lbs, what's five lbs, what's 10 lbs, what's 15 lbs, OMG it's 20 lbs, OMG it's 40lbs, it's 68lbs and I'm a failure!"

Well, I talked to my surgeon a couple of years ago and went to have my head examined!  LOL  Seriously, I did start counseling and started to deal with some of the issues that I used as excuses to use food as comfort.  Other things have happened in my life and I finally talked to the right person, a medical doctor who put me on an extra antidepressant that helped me to sleep at night and low and behold...I started to drop weight.

One of my biggest problems was night eating...waking up every one, two or three hours and feel like I was starving and eating up to 300 calories each time!!!  I gained most of my weight by eating things I could have...protein bars, no sugar!!!

I have also been diagnosed ADD...at 55 years of age(I have just turned 56) and the psychiatrist who diagnosed me explained that not wanting to go to sleep at night is "normal" for many ADD or ADHA patients.

I am able to deal with my eating alot better and I am happy to say I have come down from 218lbs in April to 182lbs now.  That is a weight loss of 36lbs, that's more than half of the 68lbs I had gained in 3 years.  I am very proud of it, I do not weight 150lbs...yes I would like to lose more, but I am still in counseling. Right now I am going to a boundaries group and learning alot about myself and I know the rest of the weight that I NEED to lose to be healthy will come off in time.

I know this is long, but what I am trying to say sweetie, is YOU are the only one who can tell yourself what you should do.  Yes, you can ask for our opinions, but you are ultimately the one who has to make the decision.  Take the time to think about what you want and maybe why you are gaining and how much you have gained and in what length of time.  What is going on in your life that may have caused you to change your eating habits?  Are you comfort eating?  Are you eating really bad things, or you eating too much of the right things?  Are you eating healthy things?

You really need to take the time and look at your life and come to some conclusions about yourself.  After you do that if you still feel like WW is what you need then go for it!!  You may just find out that there is just one or two things that you are doing that you could cut out or you may decide that the weight gain isn't as bad as you think it is and if you just change what you are doing and take your time, you may be able to get things under control easier than you think.

I hope this has been a help to you and you don't think I am just some crazy old lady sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong, but I don't think any of us can put on you what works for us....and that means me too!!

Good luck Candice.  I will keep you in my prayers.  Please post how you're doing, I'm interested...whatever you decide to do.

Christ's peace,

Thanks for the input!  I am 3.5 years out.  My lowest was around 125 & I heard the same things you did... I looked sickly.. too thin... I needed to eat... blah blah... Finally I guess I did what you did and let the comments get to me.  I was happy with my weight... ate right, stopped when I was full, and exercised daily.  I miss that me terribly.  I am up to about 170 lbs. now.  I'd like to get back to 130-135.  Also, funny you should mention night eating, for the past year this has been a problem for me too... It's almost like I'm so tired I don't know what I'm doing it at the time.  Also, you mentioned not wanting to go to sleep & one night my husband though I was crazy when I asked him if he ever dreads going to bed at night.  I told him sometimes I am really tired but just don't want to go to sleep.  I dread it even!   I have bought a new treadmill and am awaiting the technichian to come assemble this monstrosity.  Tomorrow night is my first WW meeting.  My mother is going to go with me.  I am hoping it helps to have some weight loss support.. & even a bit of competition to get me motivated to get back on track!  Congrats on your weight loss!!!  You're doing a great job!  Keep it up!  You're an inspiration to me!  I hope I'm doing as well as you are in 2 more years!

sounds like great advice to me. I am down only 4 since surgery a week ago!!?? I read stories about ladies who lose 10, 12, 15 lbs the first week. they are not hungry...well I am hungry. I eat ALL home made foods. I am a good cook and I always use lowfat dairy products. well I am using 4% cottage cheese right now.  but I am eating three to four times a day and drinking water and having one to two protein drinks. not sure why the scale has not moved in three days. BM's are fine, Im walking its a bit disappointing. eating aobut 500-700 cals a day and no scale action. what  a bummer. LOL. hopefully it will start to fo go down in the next day or two... I pray God will lead you in the right direction for what works best for you. We are all different and it takes lots of programs for all kinds of people.
God Bless you
