How Did You Get Thru THE FLOOD?

We're in the northern suburbs of Atlanta (a 12 min. drive down GA 400 to the beltway) and on a lakefront.
Fortunately, our backyard slopes downnnnnn to Lake Martin, so our home was never at risk. But it wasn't til the day after, when I put on my waterproof rainboots & slogged down to the nature walk that goes around this 55-acre lake, that I realized how far up the slope the waters had risen!

I put my photos with commentary in an album that's open to anyone to see on Facebook. It's under my name.

Picking up garbage along shore, blowing wet leaves off our steep driveway & decks is excellent exercise, BTW!

We have a camper on the river and I was surprised at hoe high the water was. It's a very scary thing watching the waters rise.

We really didn't have any problems around our town. I did have an acquaintance in Atlanta whose husband never made it to work last week. They found his body later that day. I'm not sure what happened yet.

Dear Debbie,
It is a shocking experience when the landscape we've known as comfortingly familiar suddenly turns on us! I gather your camper was not flooded or otherwise damaged, and I'm happy for y'all.

So many of our flood fatalities were folks whose vehicles were carried off in a torrent of water and they were either unable to escape or they did but drowned in the river. We're just not used to flash flood conditions the way folks in other places (Houston & Austin spring to mind) are.

Years ago, when that happened to a former college classmate of mine I bought one of those multiple-use gadgets that can be used to smash open a car window and I've kept it in the glove compartment ever since. It's no guarantee I'd survive exiting the car; but I think it stacks the deck more in my favor. I think places like Home Depot, & other places that sell auto-related gadgets sell them.

All of these flood scenes on TV reinforce my commitment to stay physically fit and STRONG so I can not only survive emergencies like this, but be able to help others.

How's your WLS journey unfolding?
Blessings,
Lauralyn

That shot taken from an office above the downtown connector floored me! I saw it a couple of days ago. And the helicopter footage of Six Flags Over Georgia where the giant rollercoaster looks like the Loch Ness Monster - just the tops of its humps showing...
Stay strong! Stay fit! It may save your life when nature turns on us!
Blessings,
Lauralyn
