Special Prayer needed
THIS IS LONG...BUT IMPORTANT!!
There is a special woman who has come into our lives in my office. She is homeless. Our office is located in downtown Mobile so we do unfortunately see alot of homelessness. This woman is special to us in that she came in wiht a very impressive resume. We did not have the funds to hire her, being a non profit. My Director told her that we could offer her shelter during the day from the heat (she came the last part of May) in return for much needed clerical work. She also said she would like to offer her a place to stay on weekends in place of the women's shelter she stayed in, her home. This woman happily took us up on our offer and we have come to care for her very much. She had worked for years in a library in a Georgia College before losing her job and her home. She has a van and all of her worldly possessions are in that van and we have allowed her to keep some (the last of ) her family "treasures" which consists of a bag of items and a binder with records such as birth/death certificates, etc. We were in the process of planning the reorganization of our 3500-4000 book library from the dewey decimal system to a thematic format. She took this challenge on and planned and coordinated the entire reorganization plus the research into online services and coordinated us getting all of our books uploaded to a new online library.
In the past month to month and a half, we have noticed a change in her personality. She had told us she had stopped taking an anti-depressant because she didn't like the way it numbed her. She started telling our direcor some rather wild stories that she was told not tot share at the office. She didn't, but she just started having some differenced in her personality and we were all getting concered.
My director received a phone call Friday afternoon from a lawyer/minister for the women's shelter who informed her that the woman is suffering from SEVERE mental illness and has not been on serious medication for a while and has been spiraling down very rapidly. They felt she was a danger to herself and feared she was going to do harm to herself in our office. She was unable to stay with my Director this past weekend due to her having to be out of town and not being comfortable with this woman staying at her house with her husband and son there alone with her. This has happened a couple of times because my Director has to go to Dothan and Montgomery to our other offices because we cover a large area of Alabama. Anyway, they didn't have a bed for her in the mental health facility, and they said they were planning to have the probate office contact my director and have her picked up at our office on Monday to have her committed for observation and put back on necessary medications for her own good. Well, we didn't ge that call until yesterday afternoon and they will be sending two deputies from the sheriff's office to pick her up at 8:30 (when we open) this morning to get her to court by 9:00. My director can't be there because her husband is havng a heart cath this morning. I will have to let the deputies in and tell them where she is. My director did ask that they take her out through the back so as not to embarrass her by bringing her down the hallway and out on the main street in front of all of us.
Please pray for Leslie and for all in our office. She is not going to take this well at all. She will be very frightened. They have not been able to share anything with us because of privacy acts, but we do know that she has begun to feel unsafe at the woman's shelter. She thinks they have been allowing people to take her out of there and use her for medical testing on her body. She has a background of abuse...rape and seeems to be suffering from some post traumatic stress. It is so sad and she is such a brilliant human being!! The young man who works in our office will go over to the courthouse and show up at court reprsenting our director to assure her that said director will take her vehicle to her home and protect all worldly goods. We are hoping she will not know that we knew ahead of time. She trusts us and we don't want to lose that. She has no famly...she has built a trust in us and she needs to have I know this is long, but I knew I could depend on you all!

Wow, this is sad and so common. Untreated mental illness can derail anyone. Hopefully they will be able to help her out in such a way that she is not embarassed, sees the needs for continued meds/treatment, and is offered the resources to be able to receive them with no fuss/no muss.
You and the staff you work with are real treasures in this story too. You went way beyond what the average person would do. Good on you!
Y'all will be in my prayers in a special way this morning (including your hubby).
Janice
Gosh...BLESS each of you who have touched Leslie's life! I will be praying for her...and as Janice said, this is so common, yet it is not common that people reach out to those in need as you and your staff have for Leslie.
My heart goes out to Leslie as well as to you and your staff.
I love you my Teal Rose friend!

Thank you Jackie. She has touched our life also. I love you too. I red on facebook that Jessie is planning to ask the doctor when she can go back to school. Bless her heart. I bet she is having such a hard time being still to recuperate!
I've got to go and get my shower so I can be at work early to be prepared! I hope Leslie comes in on time today. She is usually there before 8:s0. I pray she doesn't come in late. If she sees the deputies before they see her, she could run. That would be bad for her. We don't want her to harm herself.
I guess I'd better go. I'm getting excited about Atlanta in November!!!

How sad and how very very nice of your company to do this for her. I will keep her and you all in my heart and prayers .God Bless ,Val
Oh Connie...I will continue my prayers for her. You know...God is more than able to heal her. There are so many hurting people right now. I pray that God will heal her, give her peace and put her right where she needs to be. You all are precious for helping someone so in need and accepting her so freely. I love ya!!!
I will pray for her. my husband feeds the homeless in the park about once a week there in mobile and sees all kinds of people. we have a very close family friend who has schizophrenia and believes that people from the government are always watching him. he rents out his condo to three other people and lives in a small corner of the dinning room. he like very small places., no one in the family will take him in and have him evaluated and placed on meds. its sad. he may do better once on medication. He too is very smart. had a bad childhood. his dad use to beat him somthing awful. I sure hope she gets the help she needs.
