Iron Infusion

I saw the hematologist today. He schedules an iron infusion for Friday, Aug 12th.  He said I might has some nausea and joint pain during the infusion and for a short time after the infusion. Instructed me to take a Zofran before leaving home for the infusion. Anyone experience joint pain with an iron infusion? If so, how long did it last?

Phyllis I to have had the iron infusion but not related to gastric bypass.  Joint pain is just one of the many side effects.  If you are not bothered by joint pain you should do fine.  If you do have some arthritis  it might make it flair up and have some discomfort.  As far at the nausea I did not have any and being a nurse I never seen any patients that got the infusion have any nausea.   I did the infusions back in the 80's and was the first patient at the hospital that I worked that did an iron infusion.  Now they are so common that it is no big deal.  If I can answer any question please let me know, I did a ton of research before I would agree to have them.  I wish you the best.

I had no joint pain, no nausea, no side effects whatsoever, and I felt better immediately afterwards!  The worst part for me was the fact that it took 6hrs to infuse....they gave me a 45min dose, then waited 30min or so (watching for a reaction), then started the rest of the bag.  I napped, walked around, watched TV and read til it finished.   Drove myself there and drove myself home....no big deal.

Great to hear! Dr. Kellum told me that due to the amount he would be infusing, come prepared to be thre at least 8 hours and that we might be looking at having to do 2 seperate infusions due to the amount I need. Thanks for your reply!
