Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:2)
Most of us are not what we think we are. Our thinking is marred and needs to be changed. This is how I know... by the many many people I have contact with every year in my profession and also by the Word of God. The Bible calls us to a "renewal" of our minds. This means change. That means that we should trade our old perceptions, old opinions, old ideas, old beliefs, and old self-centered attitudes on a new set of perceptions, opinions, ideas, beliefs and attitudes that God develops in us. I have begun going to a group called Celebrate Recovery. I had the wrong perception about this program when I went into it. I felt uncomfortable as I thought this program was only for addicts. I went due to other issues that I needed to understand that are affecting my life and in order to help someone. HOWEVER, after being there, I remembered, first of all...yes I am an addict....I was/am addicted to food. Without the help of God and the renewing of my mind every day and sometimes every minute, I could gain all of that weight back. Further, I have found out that I have a lot in common with chemically dependent people. If we get right down to it...the addiction is just the surface problem. The real problem has deep deep roots that need to be plucked out. We all have issues. By the renewal of our minds, we will be transformed.

This one hit home with me this morning. I have been to a lottttt of classes on addiction. I went due to have a loved one that was addicted and came away finding that I was also addicted but to other things. I also learned that I was co-dependent. Addiction and co-dependent go hand in hand. I also learned that the only person that I can change is myself and that you can not fix some one else. It will always be a work in progress for me, I still find things that I need to change.
