OK...someone who has a support group or anyone who knows...help me out here.  I am 4 years out.  I want to start a regimine of Vitamins C & D and Lycopene.  OK now...here is my question....I take the calcuim with D and the multi-vitamin (prenatal) and B-12 already.  Is it ok to take these too?  Thank so much.

Carmen when was the last time that you had labs drawn?  As for the vitamin D they are now checking that one and some of us are low in D.  If you are about to have labs then I think I would wait and see what the Vit  D shows.  The research shows if you  sit in the sun for 10 min a day you will get all the D that you need.   I don't think that extra Vit C would hurt.  I have slacked off on my vit D as I have been at the beach and pool a lot this summer. Probaly will start it back in a few weeks.

I have an appointment to meet with Dr. Freeman on the 2nd I believe.  Linda is mailing me my lab paperwork.  I will just wait til them.  What about Lycopene?  Do you know anything about us taking that?  BTW...thanks for responding.

It shouldn't hurt you take lycopene.  I do.  However, I took it upon myself to up my D intake even though I didn't know what my D levels were and it did some weird stuff to my moods.  I did some reading on it and apparently if you're not low, you shouldn't overdo the D.  I went off the extra D (I do take it in my calcium) and the moodiness straightened out.  Hubby was so pleased.    Also too much D can cause calcium in your blood.

Thanks Kay.  I will go ahead with the C and Lycopene, but I will hold off on the D until I see my doc next month.  I am just trying to make sure that my immune system does not get low.  I hate getting sick and I was told that these will help my immune system.

Greetings from she who just moved here from usually overcast Ohio ....

... where Vit D levels are usually in the basement for EVERYONE.  The nutritionist told me it is normal for those levels to be low in the winter into spring.  Sunshine helps with Vit D levels, but taking some is important to the absorption of calcium too.

I take a boatload of vitamins and what not between Vitamins C & D as well as a megamultivitamin, mega dose of iron (seriously .. a daily requirement is around 50 mg and I take over 300 mg), magnesium and Calcium .. this is in addition to the prescription medicines I have for stomach issues and a family hereditary condition.  Feels like a lot, but it beats the stew out of 8 meds a day.

If you are really concerned, call or just talk to the nutritionist or doctor when you have an appointment.  They have a vested interest in making sure you continue to do well.

Take the Calcium with D  ( CITRACAL )PLUS D and you should be ok ,, My labs are great in that area and my Doc said those are the ones to take along with a Mulit ,B-12  sublinguel , vit D , magnisum everyday.  I cant do the iron that is also needed so I have to do iron infusions every few months by IV.

Thanks so much, Shirley.  I have been taking prenatal vits for a couple of years, but it seems as though I need to be taking citracal.  I will get some of those.  I will be going to see my WLS doctor next month, so I will talk with him.  I just do not want my immune system to fall apart LOL.  The C, D, and Lycopene are to help the immune system.
