Vision Problems?

Has any of you had any problems with your vision since your WLS?  I tried to wear contacts the first of the year and really loved them, but my eyes got so dry I was putting in drops ever little bit.  I went back to glasses and they are just about to make me drink.  Some days I can see good and today is being one of those days that I can see better with out my glasses.  I have been back to the eye doc and she says my glasses is fine.  I can not wear them to drive and when I walk into a store they are off and on as I can not see good, but then I have to put them on to  see labels and tags. I just don't know what to do besides seeing another doctor, which I am planning on doing.  By the way I will be 6 years out in a few weeks and this has been going on since the first of the year.

My eyes give me problems ... but not to that extent.  I can manage with my contacts and I have plenty of moisture in my eyes too. So sorry.

Have you heard of people (post op gastric bypass) voiding/urinating fewer times per day as a post op than prior to surgery?  A nurse, who is a post-opper, asked me about this a few weeks ago...I haven't personally noticed a difference.    What have you heard, if anything?

Jackie I have not heard anything on that one.  The only reason I would think is if maybe she is dehydrated.  I am wondering if she is getting in enough fluids.

Louise ,
Sounds like you need only the reading part of a glass like I do ,,,Have them make you reading glasses that have the bicol for reading in the bottom and the clear glass at the top that way you can wear them all the time if you choose in the store etc,
I have the same problem ..

Good Morning Shirley.  I do wear bifocal and have worn them for now about 10 years or so.  The problem started this last time when I got new glasses the first of the year.   I can see perfect thru the bottom for reading it is the top that is driving me up a wall.  Some day's  I can see good and then the next day everthing is blurry.  The glasses have been adjusted and I have a reexam and told they were the right strength so I just don't know what to do.  Except maybe try another doctor.

You may have hit the nail on the head...by trying another doctor!
I had an eye doctor that would OVER prescribe my eye glasses and contacts before my current eye doctor...and I had problems.  I couldn't see, and I would have headaches.  The current doc is very thorough and is right on the money regarding my scripts!

As far as the urination comments...I commented to her (already) about the possibility of her being dehydrated.  She says she is not and that she isn't the only one that has problems with urination as a post-op.  I told her I communicate with a large group of post-oppers, and I have NEVER heard this topic come up in our communication before!  This is the 1st for me.

Louise, if you hear of anyone else mentioning this, will you let me know?

I have had dry eye sufficient enough that they have considered me on the edge of glaucoma for quite sometime.  But with all this drinking over the past two years, that problem seems to have gone buh-bye.

It just could be eye strain on a given day or, dare I say it, aging.  That aging thing is just not pretty.  I have bifocals, but should've been told my glasses are too narrow for the reading portion to be any good - and just went and got readers instead.  LOL, makes me feel wise.

Hi Louise,

You might want to do a little research on vitamin A deficiency and Gastric Bypass surgery.  I have Glaucoma so I go to a specialist every 6 months for a checkup.

He mentioned a couple of years ago that I may want to check into vitamin a supplements due to an article that had come out in a medical journal.  It seems that because vitamin A is a fat soluable vitamin, people who have had gastric bypass do not absorb vitamin A from the foods they eat.  One of the side effects of low vitamin A is dry eyes.  There wre also incidences of blindness caused from this vitamin A deficiency.

I take a Bariatric Advantage Vitamin A (10,000 IU's) capsule daily.  You can get too much vitamin A, so you need to talk to your Doctor before adding to your vitamin regimen.  I hope this helps.

Very interesting post.  I've had problems with my eyes over the last year/year & half...and never thought about it being a vitamin deficiency-thing.  I'll definitely ask the eye doc on my next visit.

For now, they just tell me "it's because you're over 40"...I told the last doc that told me that - "You're gonna get kicked in the shin if you keep saying that!!!"

Lisa I know all about over the 40 thing.  I was also thinking since 40 that my arms had gotten  shorter.  This has all started since first of the year with me and when I got new glasses.  I do wear bifocals and have for several years. The part that is driving me crazy is the distant part of my glasses not the reading part.  With the distant or top part everthing is sort of fuzzy.
