Does anyone know what is "normal" lecvel for potassium. Dr. said mine was low but I was wondering what "normal" level is.  Also, how much iron should we be taking. Dr said that was lowere end of normal and to take 2 iron tabs but didn't say how many mg's.

The normal lab value are 3.5 to 5.2.  It might be a point or two different depending on what lab you use.  But it still should be close to these numbers.  What was your?

Thanks for the info. My potasssium was 3.3 which is just a little low. Doc didn't tell me the values of my iron or Vitamin D, but said everything else looked fine. My HgbA1C had gone down 1.2 points since last time he took it, but have to rmember for 1 1/2  - 2 mos of that time, I wasn't eating anything or mostly clear or full liquids. Will see diabetes educator on Wed and talk to her & see what she has to say. Blood sugars are still high in the mornings and sometimes when I remember to take it before meals, but Dr (Int med) took me off insulin and just has me on Actos 45 mg. Thanks again for your help

You might want to try and eat a banana, that should help with the potassium.  Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I just wanted to add that there's really no such thing as a little low. Potassium is pretty much an exact science. If you've recently had diarrhea or vomiting, a low potassium is to be expected and should return to normal but if nothing has changed, you might need to add something with potassium to your diet (banana, lima beans, yams, spinach, etc).
