I have a BP question?

I have been quite light headed lately.  I know my doctor told me my bp has been running a bit low, but how low is LOW and when should I get worried?  I've been very tired and hurting a lot the last couple of days.  I don't know if I have rheumatoid arthritis like my daddy or fibromyalgia or what's going on, but every bone, muscle and joint in my body hurts.  My hands and shoulders hurt the worst and I've even had to resort to taking some of my Lortab that I hate to have to take unless absolutely neccessary and even that hasn't helped.  I just got finished sweeping and mopping the entire house and my BP is only 88/57  is that normal?  I know it's low for me, but like I said....how low is too low?  Earlier today I checked it and it was 90/60.  This is all without even taking my BP meds.  They have me keeping a close check on it and not taking my meds if it is that low, but I don't know what level is TOO LOW to become worried about.  Any help appreciated.

Hi Loretta,

I googled low blood pressure and found a site and copied this.

What about low blood pressure?

Low blood pressure can be dangerous when the drop in pressure occurs suddenly. Certain symptoms can also be a cause for concern when they accompany the drop. The following symptoms are often associated with low blood pressure:

  • Blurred vision
  • Nausea
  • Depression
  • Inability to focus or concentrate
  • Constant fatigue
  • Fainting
  • Lightheadedness
  • Dizziness
  • Cold, clammy, pale skin

What can lead to low blood pressure?

  • Being dehydrated
  • Getting pregnant
  • Taking certain medications
  • Deficiencies in your diet
  • Significant blood loss
  • Heart or endocrine problems

What treatment options are available?

Treatment options vary greatly, depending on the cause of the low blood pressure. For example, you may need to make some simple diet changes or alter some of the medication you take.

What is normal blood pressure

It's healthiest to have blood pressure that is at or below 120 over 80 (120/80). If you can maintain a blood pressure range around this level, you'll have a greatly decreased risk of heart disease or stroke.

this is a link I found with more info, you can cut and paste in the browser.  I couldn't make it a hyperlink.

I hope this helps.  I don't think you are dangerously low.  There was another site with a chart that I can't find again.  90/60 wasn't too low.  It was at the cusp of low normal and high low.  Dangerously low was way down...like top number 60.  Read these articles and they should help.

Connie, thank you so much.  I have felt so poorly today and didn't even think to google it to find out myself.  I got some good info from the folks on facebook and what you have given me here.  Thank you so very much for being concerned for me.  I got a couple of really nice phone calls from concerned friends too.  I am still not feeling well and haven't been able to rest much either.  I've taken my night time meds and hopefully will be able to rest shortly.  7 am comes early and that's when Christian will arrive for the day.  Holly and I have a house to clean tomorrow afternoon to make some extra money.  It's a large house so we should make good on it.  I just hope I feel like it.  I am just not up to cleaning it alone and she needs some extra money as well.  My Dad will keep Christian for us and we can get it done in half the time with both of us working on it.  I just need to go out and buy a few supplies to clean with.  Please say a prayer for me tomorrow that I can make it thru the day.

Thanks again for your concern and information.
