 Ok...
So, I went and joined a gym, then I went and hired a personal trainer! Started week 2 tonight, I think I am going to do 8 weeks minimum with the trainer (2 nights a week). This should help me not only get a routine down, but also make it habit. So, 2 days a week with a trainer hitting the weights and working my core and 3 days a week doing cardio. Last night doing cardio I did 52 minutes non stop for 6.5 miles on the eliptical and treadmill.

2 years ago I wouldn't have sniffed 10 minutes on a treadmill, last night 52 minutes non stop, tonight 60 minutes fast paced circuit training tomorrow shooting for 70 minutes of cardio...

This is wicked fun!

Chris,

I am with you!  I love working out and how good I feel afterwards.  Sometimes getting started is a pain .. and literal drag (myself to the gym or dvd workout) ... but it is so awesome and the results are so good.  How wonderful you have been able to get started and have a trainer to work with!  Yay!!!

Hi Chris,
KUDOS to you for getting in the groove! I just had plastic surgery in the tummy are and feel that once I recover I'll get back in there as well! I always loved working out but it was very difficult with the extra skin/fat that I would normally just give up. I'm actually looking forward to joining somewhere where I can take advantage of some Zumba classes. I've always LOVED aerobics!
Keep up the great work and thanks for posting this.

Regarding the personal training, can you tell me what you get for your money? Do they set you up with a routine? Do they also stay with you while you excercise to be sure you're doing it right? Nutrition help? Just curious.

Let me start out by saying each trainer is different.

I pay $30 a session, I work out with my trainer twice a week. I am going to use her services for 8 weeks, after that I will make the call if I need to go any further. And by further I mean, am I comfortable going out on my on my own, do I know what I am doing? I go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I 2 days a week, 60 minutes non-stop circuit training (weights/cardio) with the trainer and 3-4 cardio (on my own) for 60-75 minutes each session.

Ok, what do you get?

First, usually your first session is more than the typical session fee as they have to set you up with your program.

Ok, yes... My trainer is glued to me the entire workout. Helping, assistant, teaching and pushing. Some are also nutritionists some just offer advice. Mine helps with nutrition.

My trainer also set me up with 10 different routines for cardio. So, I rotate through my sessions, never getting bored.

Also, each day's circuit training is given to me so that I have a guide to use for future training. So, if I use my trainer for 8 weeks, I will have 16 different "training" guidelines that I can follow.

WOW CHRIS...YOU GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!  I wish I were able to do that.  I loved Curves and it fit well with my back problems, but they closed mine, so I am trying to make up my own exercise each week.  (mainly walking)  You are doing fantastic!!!!!

I can't say I love it, but now that I've been working out faithfully for 7 months, I can say that I feel so much better....and that keeps me going.  Some days I have to drag my butt downstairs (we have a gym set up in our basement), but once I'm there and sweating, I'm into it.

I am waiting on my new treadmill to get delivered....that is something to look forward to...and I do love doing the weights.
