I'm so not hungry the only thing I want is water. I managed a sugar free popsicle and 1oz 0f sugarfree jello and abount 24 oz of water I don't think this is enough is it. I'm having a hard time making myself eat and drink I'm still in a lot of pain on my left side. I bought me a heating pad today and it seems to help a little with the pain. I had my first bowel movement today(TMI) sorry. And I'm getting in plenty of walking I just don't think I'm eating right help. Oh while at the grocery store I saw some Milos tea made with splenda is this ok for me and Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom No Sugar Added Crunch lights( can I have those ever they looked good I know I can't in this phase but what about phase two) I believe it had 2 sugars and 6 sugar alcohols 100 calories and 11 carbs.
Thanxs, Amy

Hi Amy,

It sounds like you are right where you should be.  It is hard to eat anything but you be pushing the liquids.  A couple of ounces or one ounces (which ever you can do at one time) at intervals.  Set a timer if you need to.  I did that at my office because that is where I had a hard time remembering to drink.  Almost 5 years later and a message comes up on my computer starting at 10:00 a.m. reminding me to drink and it comes up every 15 minutes until I stop it at 11:30.  I go to lunch from 12 - 1 and then it starts up again at 2 and repeats every 15 minutes until I leave for the day.  I stayed dehydrated in the beginning until I did this.  It works for me.   I don't do it at home, but I always carry either water or decaf tea around with me whatever room I'm in.
No, the Milos tea with Splenda is not okay...it has caffeine.  You need 64 ozs of non caffeine liquid  per day (I know you haven't worked up to that amount yet).  The rule is: for every oz of liquid with caffeine you drink, you have to drink an ADDITIONAL oz of non caffeine liquid to counteract the dehydrating effects.

Sweetie, it sounds like you are having head hunger.  PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE AND DON'T EVEN WALK DOWN THE ICE CREAM AISLE!!!  Seriously, at this stage in your journey, you should only be thinking of putting things in your mouth that are nutritious.  The little bit you will be able to eat should have protein and vitamins!  You will not be able to eat enough to waste it on ice cream, even sugar free.  Did your Dr. give you a food plan.  If so take it out and look at it and plan your meals.   If you are still on the clear liquid diet, you need to be drinking an ounce or two of broth, if you don't like the broth make chicken noodle soup and drain the noodles off and just drink the broth.  I liked this much better.  My son would eat the noodles. ;-)

If you want to lose your weight and be healthy, you need to put those kinds of foods in your past.  I did not eat anything like that until I had reached my goal of 150 lbs.  That was down 159lbs from my surgery day weight of 309lbs.  I started to eat sugar free ice cream, sugar free candy, sugar free cookies...just a little here and there.  I started gaining almost immediately.  I didn't exercise.  I lost the weight without exercising.  But now I was gaining the weight without exercising and rationalized that I was too thin.  Everyone was telling me that.  They were wrong and so was I.  For the first time in more than 35 years I wasn't overweight, barely...and here I was gaining again.  My weight crept up a lb her a couple of lbs there until in March of this year I weight 216lbs!!!  I am now down to 189lbs and am dealing with eating those sugar free...but VERY FATTENING and FULL OF CALORIE treats and have just found out because of that and not exercising...just losing the weight during the honeymoon phase of Gastric Bypass Surgery...and not using my tool correctly and REALLY GETTING HEALTHY I have an excessive amount of plaque buildup in my left main and my left descending arteries...and I have a medium to high chance of having a heart attack, even though my diabetes is gone, my blood pressure is low, I am not morbidly obese (but I am still overweight), and I thought I was healthy.

I'm sorry that I went on and on and I AM NOT FLAMING YOU.  I just want you as a brand new loser to not make the same mistakes that I made.  I am taking control now and I am getting on an exercise program as soom as my doctor calls.  He doesn't have the results of the test yet, but he said if the results were what I now know them to be, he would schedule a stress test.  After the stress test, I will begin whatever exercise program I am advised to do.

Take the time to love yourself and from thevery beginning learn how to use this new and wonderful tool you have been given to become healthy along with becoming thin. I hope you know that I am trying to help you and I hope you take it that way.  I KNOW IT IS HARD AND I WON'T PRETEND THAT IT'S NOT.  I'VE BEEN THERE AND I DIDN'T DO VERY WELL.  I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT.  PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES.   Let me know if you need anything and I mean it!!

BRAVO, Connie!!! Very, VERY well said. This is truly a CHANGE OF LIFESTYLE and we have to be mindful of our decisions on a daily basis. Just because we have this surgery, it does not fix our heads. Doctors' instructions need to be followed to a "T"...or all this is for nothing.

OK...off my soapbox now!!!

I was afraid it would sound like I was fussing at or flaming Amy, but I just don't want a newbie to get in trouble from the beginning.  Thanks for the support!

Oh Connie....you have said it all here.  I began to eat s/f popsicles at night...at first one and then later 2.  OK...in my head...two of them only had 140 calories, but...when you have had all your calories and then you decide you want a s/f pudding later, it adds up.  I had gained 5 pounds and I had to stop.  I began feeling as I had before WLS.  "Well, it's ok...I won't do this tomorrow...I will lose these few pounds...it's really not that much...etc etc etc.   I stopped buying anything with S/F on it that I liked LOL.  If I want a goody now...I drink me a protein shake.  Sometimes I have a bar.  But I cannot eat S/F treats because I AM an addict.

I love you Connie.

AMY....You will do great.  Just drink right now and get in as much as you can.

Amy,
Connie is SO right with her comments...and she IS and has been where you are...and knows how you feel.  I KNOW Connie and her heart is in the right place.  Please take her words/comments as loving advice from someone who knows.
You are in your honeymoon phase, and you want to take advantage of this time and to not sabotage yourself.  You CAN do this sweetie!!!
It is so worth it when you nourish yourself instead of sneaking in the "other" foods that aren't so good.  Your body is depending on you now more than ever to nouri****
Again, you can do this!!!!

Thanxs everyone for your advice don't worry I didn't feel anyone was flaming me but I am a little confused now because I was sent home with a book detailing what I could have and I'm following it. It says " Clear Liquids(week 1, days 1 thru 7) Water, unsweetened apple, cranberry, and grape juice, diet gelatin, clear broth, sugar-free popsicles, decaffinated tea or coffee. No more than 6 meals per day and 64 ounces of liquids per day. I sip water all day have 1 1/2 oz of chicken broth and maybe 1 ounce of sugarfree jello of a sugarfree popsicle. All of this is spoken on in my book so I'm confused. I am a newby and I'm going to need lots of advice trust me I don't want to mess this up I'm just unsure what I'm doing wrong I'm following my surgeons book.
Thanxs, Amy
