I think it is probably according to you policy.  All group coverage and policies are different even if they are all BC/BS of Alabama.

Usually if anything of this nature is covered, it is usually not a tummy tuck, whi*****ludes tightening of muscles.  Most insurance coverage is for a
panniculectomy (removal of the pannis or apron of loose skin, tissue and fat which forms at the lower portion of the abdomen after loss oflarge amounts of weight).  From what I understand, you must have medical reasons and documentation.  And a good plastics doctor who can document, such as continued rashes and or sores under the skin folds, etc...

I googled pannuculectomy and came up with a site that explains everything you need to know about the procedure.  It even gives the requirements of hanging skin(such as how low it has to hang) and the grades of the hanging skin..  They also had definitions of tummytuck or abdomnioplasty.

Hope this helps.  Good luck!

I have BC/BS and they paid for my panniculectomy.  However, I had to find the right surgeon (or the one who was able to word the letter correctly).  I'd seen 2 other surgeons who didn't have any success getting it approved and I paid over $350 in consult fees b/c BC/BS didn't approve the surgery.  Check with the surgeons that you see and make sure you know the costs upfront.    I ended up using Dr. Rumley in Gadsden (www.rumleycenter.com) and was MORE than pleased with his office & the outcome.
