Ok so I'm two weeks from surgery and have been saving for my surgeons bill that I'm having to pay up front on June 4th $716.25. Being the fact that my surgery was scheduled a month after I was approved was a bit of a stretch for me in these hard economic times. Well guess what I talked to my surgeons nurse today and she asked me have you took care of your facility and anesthestia fees yet. Ugh Come Again I Thought? So I called the hospital anethesia said we'll bill you after surgery, Whew. Well the facility said I've got to come up with 1,900 before the 10th. Why could they have not told me this before, I'm devastated I don't have that kind of money just laying around. Every surgery I had in the past I was billed for, I told that lady this. She said well this is an elective surgery it's your choice to have it, It's not a medical neccessity. I told her my insurance would not pay anything if they didn't feel it was a medical neccessity. I finally talked her down she said if you can come up with 1,000 by the 8th you can still have surgery. So now I'm searching every where for the money, I'm pretty resourceful I'm hoping I can pull that off I'm sure I can but it's gonna put us in a bind. Sorry I'm a bit worked up I don't mean to rant. I just need to get it all out I guess. Anyone else have to deal with this. Thanxs for listening.
Thanxs, Amy

Not that level or lack of notice, but yes, I had to pay nearly $1K out of pocket .. and I have excellent insurance. Do you have people and resources you can turn to for this? Call the United Way in your area - they keep track of all the helping agencies and will be able to tell you if there are any who can provide some kind of grant or no-interest loan. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

I was told the same I had to pay $1068.00 to the Hospital and the day before surgery the Doc's office told me I had to pay them 300.00 before surgery ! I said no way why wait til the day before surgery to inform me ? She said it was new came in the first of the year. I said well someone should have called me . But the Doc waved it due to the mess up in the office .   Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers

I think most of us had to pay out of pocket prior to surgery due to the surgery being elective. I was very fortunate in that I had wonderful insurnace with wonderful copays and my facility and surgeon were both providers, so I only had to pay the copays. Check out care credit. I think the web address is www.carecredit.com. Most surgeons, dentist etc accept care credit and even have applications in their offices. I looked into care credit for plastics in the event my hubbies insurance would not cover them.

Yup sounds like I had to pay about the same amount as you do.. .but I can't remember but I know it was rite around about $1000.00.  Most hospitals do accept credit card payments, depends on the Hospitals thought I guess.
