Ok I know a poor Family  the hub is very sick . What I need is if any one knows any service here in Alabama in the Tuscaloosa area that can assist in getting him to and from the Doctor in Birmingham. People are taking advantage of them. Thought there might be a service That could help them for transportation purpose only, as they do not have a car. I am not asking for anything for them just a way for him to the Doc in Birmingham. He is a very sick man and needs transportation to Doc

Hey Vickie,  I don't know of any help as I am not from that area.  I can tell you that they can call local churches to see if they have a volunteer that would take them to the Dr.  Also, many hospitals have a van that they use to transport needy and aging people to Dr.'s appts.  Hope this helps and I will be keeping them in my prayers.

Thanks to you all for the info . I have been on the phone all day from the Social Security, Red Cross and United way of whom all gave me different phone Numbers of other places , and no luck if they help it is with food clothing or light bills .  I did  talk to one man who does furnish travel but they have to be in a wheelchair to even qualify. The folks that took them today told her that they had to have 50.00 up-front and 20 for gas and then also buy their lunch ! That's so wrong  100.00 almost to take them . My daughter gave his wife her cell phone so they could keep in touch. They live behind my DD and I have known them for 20 years.  She called her crying today and told her that the woman was threatening to leave them because they hadn't released him yet.  I will keep looking and phoning ! Maybe I will luck upon a service  willing to give them a ride. Just keep your eye's pealed and ears open and let me know if you come upon something. I am going to call the Local churches tomorrow to see if any have something to that program. Just hold them up in prayer cause he is real bad . Close to death if he don't go to B'ham for his appointments. He had an anterior gram today with 100% blockage on one side and 97% on the other and is seizing all the time They have to do a bypass but due to his other health concerns they have to do it at UAB . The Tuscaloosa hospital said they are not equipped to do it . Thanks again. He has 2 small children a 9 yr old and a 6 yr old.

Hi Vickie.  I hope someone from that area will be able to help with this family.  I think Randall had some good suggestions.

Hey Vickie. Find out if he is a veteran, if he is there is a van that should come from Tuscaloosa ever day to the Birmingham VA.  It does not cost anything to use it. The only problem is he would have to wait until the rest of the riders get finished with their appts.  That is the only program I know of that would travel that distance. There might be others that I am not aware of.

Try calling hospital to see if they have a Shuttle service. Some might have a van. if they cant afford it, can they take a bus. ? Next Call the Community Action Partnership that helps people with their light bill and stuff. This might help. Ellen

Does he have Medicare or Medicaid? They will pay for transportation if it's over 20 miles; sounds like it is.
Also if he is disabled  or elderly he can contact the center for aging:

The number is listed as well as other tabs with additional information.
I hope this helps!
