I fell off the wagon,
Exactly Susan!
I am a nurse in an ER and work alot of weekends and nightshift so I am unable to atttend regular worship and it is hard to get involved in scheduled Bible studies for the same reason...my work schedule is never the same.
I hope you didn't feel I was getting down on you because you lost your temper with what I posted. I was attempting to reply the lady that had stated that if she believed in God, she would hope he wouldn't care what words she uses if she was sticking up for a friend. I was just making the point that "foul language" is only considered so because of society making it so. It is not a Biblical teaching. The other poster who quoted the Bible verses believes otherwise, and that is fine. The bible can be interpreted so many differrent ways and my belief (esp since most of the words in question were not probably not even words in biblical times) is that what those verses were speaking of is the attitude that is behind any word used. I know ( was raised Baptist) that there is a sense of guilt in using foul language and I understand you being disappointed in yourself for using that language and getting angry. I hate it when I lose it and throw them around too!! But it happens... like I said.....not perfect, just forgiven. And Thank God we are!!
I will not apologise for my beliefs, nor do I expect anyone else to. I just wanted to, hopefully, explain where I was coming from with my posts and hope I didn't offend you or anyone else, because that was not my intention

"Actually there is PLENTY in the Bible about that (just a few quotes below) and so a follower of Christ would know that God DOES care about our words. "
The above is a quote from you in reply to my post stating that I did not believe that God cared WHAT words we used. Were you infering that I was not a follower of Christ because I disagree with the assumption that God cares if we use so called "foul language" ..... I didn't automatically take it that way, but after going back and re-reading to see why you seemed to be angry with me (and after your assumption that I was questioning you) I wondered.
I stand by my statement that God does NOT care what words we use...He cares in what spirit they are spoken. The words that are considered "Bad" were probably not even words when Christ walked. In my original response, I was replying to the lady, (who I think is either agnostic or atheist) that I don't believe God does care what words we use, it it the spirit in which we use them. One of the things that gives people that are not Christians a bad taste in their mouths about those of us that are and turns them off to even considering other beliefs, is the holier than thou attitude that alot of people that profess to be Christians walk around with. I was not arguing with your statements, I totally agree with the verses you quoted. I do disagree with, perhaps, your interpretation of them. Like I said before, a statement as innocent as "have a nice day" can be wrong in the eyes of God if said in a mean spirited manner.
I am not judging anyone, and I did not mean to imply that if you can or cannot quote scripture has anything to do with your Christianity. And I apologise if it sounded that way. After re-reading it, I can see where you may have thought that. I do, however, wonder in what spirit you wrote this comment to me and (foul words or not) was it written in anger and with a bad attitude? And just because you didn't use any words that are considered by society to be "foul", if this comment was written in anger and with ugly thoughts in your heart, does that make it less of a sin than if you had called me an ugly name and used cuss words? (not assuming you did have hateful thoughts...just an example to show you my point...you dont have to, nor am I expecting you, to agree) I called you the "other poster" because I couldn't remember your name. The response I gave the person who had stated that going to church makes you a Christian as much as standing in a garage makes you a car is an automatic response for. The two statements go together like cookies and milk to me. Because it is SO true. Perhaps we have a different backgound and have exposure to people from different walks of life, and that gives us a different perspective on things. Not sure... I am puzzled as to why it sounds that you are so offended.
I truly hope you have a very blessed weekend.

I didn't post it in anger or with a bad attitude. I just took it as a back-handed swipe at me because I posted some scripture that *I* feel refute the belief that God doesn't care what words we use. And I don't mince words. You will find that I am not one to quote scripture or beat people over the head with a Bible. It was simply an effort to possibly educate if you did not know what the Bible said on the subject at hand since you were agreeing with FF. But you are right as you stated before that there are many ways to interpret scripture. And I certainly wasn't doing it to preach, because believe me! I REALLY struggle with my tongue.
You have a good weekend too.
You have a good weekend too.

I can see how you would take it as a swipe, and again, I do apologise for that. It was not meant as a cut down. We are interpreting the scripture in different ways, although I think we both believe in the underlying message. We are on the same side... I hope we are good now. I am new to the Bama board and I expect I will run into you again, I would not like to have any anomosity between us.

Hey Susan,
God knows your heart and your intent. I am guilty of the same thing at times. It's what we choose to do about it that counts. We can be just like everyone else or we can choose to try to be a better person. And I don't mean better than others but a better person than the one we used to be. Standing up for friends is the right thing to do and when you get passionate about something, well sometimes we may lose control of our mouth. We are your friends and we love you. It's always better to take advise from those you know and respect than to listen to people who don't know you.
Love you,
DebbieDoo
