Memory problems, cognitive thinking....

I am going through a bunch of testing for memory problems. I do not know if it is WLS related or if it has to do with my other issues. Some of it may be due to my sleep issues & we are working on that. I will see the specialist soon. I have some weird apneas, not sleep apneas as we know them....?? Leave it to me to have something weird!

I am not deficient on anything in my bloodwork, but I am very low, like right above being deficient. My regular Dr here is not concerned, but we come back to Alabama next month & I can see my original surgeon. I think he is gonna take 1 look at my bloodwork & say "Aha! This right here is your problem!" & fix it.

I do not know if I am lacking some vitamin or nutrient, but I cannot focus, think straight or carry on a long conversation to save my life!!

My Dr has me going to this website, where you play games & it is like a "brain gym". I feel like a lil kid who has to do her homework! It has a 7 day free trial, but he wants me to sign up & continue working on it. It keeps up with how your brain progresses & you have to do it different times of the day, to see when you think clearer & all that good stuff. Supposedly, the more you use it, the "stronger" your brain gets....we'll see, I guess.

Anybody else have any of these issues?

I am with you Bonnie.  My memory is terrible and my cognitive thinking is the same.  Where is this brain gym?  I am going to a neurologist this week.  My sleeping is aweful.  I slept good 2 times this week over 6 hours.  Usually, it is only 3-4 hours.  I will pray for you if you will pray for me!  I pray your surgeon finds your problem.  Lucy says I need a sleep study so I imagine the neurologist will set up one.  Keep me posted!

Can't wait till you are back!

Hi Randall,

Hope you are feeling better! The site is: http://www.lumosity.com/landing?refer=176&OVRAW=luminosity&O VKEY=luminosity&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=32821589012&OVKWID=241 127792012

You do the training session until it asks if you want to see your report, 5 games, 20 minutes or so.

I had the sleep study, My problem is all I want to do is sleep, I wake up more exhausted than when I went to sleep. I do not get good REM sleep. Have you tried Melatonin? It's all natural, it just helps you go to a deeper sleep & stay there. Alot of people who work midnights take it to help them sleep during the day.

Deal on the praying! Feel better!

Bonnie

I have those problems and I haven't had surgery yet! I was talking on the phone to a friend and right in mid sentence forgot what I was talking about. Have you done that, too. Maybe it is from the sleep apnnea & the fact that I haven't been using my c-pap.

Unfortunatlly, I do that ALL the time. I feel like I am stupid because of it! I have avoided talking to my family & friends by phone, so they don't think I am drugged out or something!!! Since I have lost soooo much weight, I am sure that is the "rumor" back home anyways!! lol

Yes, from what they have told me so far, you not using your c-pap could make you be doing this. (Did that even make sense??!! lol)

Mine is caused from low calcium. What is considered low for some is not low for others. My norm is 9.7. Now it's 8. But a very slight drop can cause the brain fog. I know the answers seems to take a few seconds to compute. Thats because calcium is the conduct for electrical impulses to go thru the body. I hate feeling stupid(er, more stupider than normal)I'm deaf anyway and can't here half of what is being said then can't understand the other half. It sure makes for interesting conversations.
I hope yu find out what your problem is and can get it cleared up soon.
You take care and can't wait to see you. Love, Miss Mary

Miss Mary,

I have it in my head that my surgeon will know what is wrong & snap his fingers & fix me....or, write a script anyways! lol! I have been taking high doses of calcium & have had Vit. D added, mine is very low & I am allergic to the sun. I also take a prenatal vitamin, but I know I also need B-12, mine is very low.

I know what you mean by feeling dumb! Sometimes, my brain is just not keeping up with stuff & I just look at whoever I am talking to & smile & nod. I may be agreeing to raise their kids..........arghhhhh!

We will be there soon! Can't wait to see you either!!

Love, Bonnie

Bonnie I meant to respond to your post yesterday but forgot to go back and do it.  What you are describing sounds like a vitamin and mineral deficency.  I went to a seminar in Atlanta the first of the year and heard a doctor speak that deals with vitamins and mineral after gastric bypass. If you can call your surgeon who did your surgery and ask if he can fax an order to the lab on what all you need to have done and then sent back to him to analyze.  This sounds like some of the same things that she spoke on.  What she said would be normal for some one who had never has WLS is not normal for the ones of us that have had surgery. Hope that you get to feeling better soon and can find out what is going on. She also said that by the time we find out some of our levels are low we already have some damage done.   Get in touch with that surgeon.
