Question For Those With United Healthcare
I posted this earlier on the main board. I intended to post it in the Alabama forum. How the hell it wound up on the main board is beyond me. I never ever go to the main board. Here goes:
I currently have BlueCross/Blue Shield of Alabama PPO. I work for a self-funded company that has two healthcare options. I can opt to have my health insurance administered by BC/BS or I can switch it to United Healthcare in November. I am trying to get BC/BS to cover my chosen WLS; The Duodenal Switch. My question is for those of you have United Healthcare in Alabama: What is their stance on the DS? I don't want to switch companies not knowing exactly what their stance is. BC/BS has no problem with the RNY, but they consider the DS "investigational". 20+ years of documentation and it is "investigational". What a load of sheet!
Another odd note; My company has an inclusion policy for the DS, but it is for certain group numbers. According to BC/BS my group number isn't in that select group. So it seems my company must be pro DS. I'm hoping I can get them to override BC/BS if they do in fact deny me.
Thanks for the help guys!
