OT-Pro Bono Lawyer

Does anyone know of a pro-bono attorney, with knowledge in family/child support law and military rights.  A little info, his 16 year old is living with us and enrolled in school.  His child support is still being paid to his ex.  Through the state of AZ all military child support is a garnishment.  We cant just stop and she won't.  Out JAG told us we can have the child custody move to AL the change the child support, but since our money is still going to the mother, we just don't have the money to to pay for it.

Any help be greatly appreciated.

There is a form in Alabama that you can fill out to stop child support.  However, a judge does have to sign an order and the order has to be issued to the employer before the cs will stop.  I am a paralegal and work for attorneys.  Unfortunately, I do not know of any who work pro bono.   If AZ has jurisdiction, you may have to file a petition or motion to change venue.  You will probably need to speak with an attorney.     

Thanks Carmen, we were told my the military lawyers that we can file for a change of venue to Al, through the AL courts.  We need an attorney to do it.  But it goes back to the fact she is getting almost a $1000 for a child who no longer resides with her.  And we are barely getting by with that money still going to her.  Do you happen to know where I might bea ble to find this form?

Call an attorney that will give you some legal adive for free BEFORE TAKING A CASE...There are some that will and see if all you need is the paperwork (PROOF ) will be needed that she lives with you, how long etc .
I have a friend that filed notice to STOP chlld support a couple years ago based on that but each case is different .,
I would try to find a FREE advice first of all if availavailable in your area.

Unfortunately you are going to have to hire an attorney to fix the childsupport issue, unless she will voluntarially  sign a waver. When my daughter came to live with us, my X signed a waiver so I would not have to keep paying him. He was nice enuf to do the paperwork on his end (his buddy is an attorney so cost him nothing). I know up here in Oklahoma to just retain a lawyer for a child custody/support case they want 3k.
I have a question... Did you do formal paperwork when she came to live with you? If not you might want to take care of that too, especially with him being military. If the X wanted to be a (B Word) she could have him in trouble for her being there and her having custody.

I am pretty sure we need one too.  But at this point with so much money still going to her and having the kids living with us, we are in a really tight bind now.

JAG should appoint an attorney to do it for you with no charge  I would keep on them, they are not the greatest here unless you bug them!!

We've already been to JAG on Rucker.  The said since this is a civil case they were unable to help us.  They could give us general info, but nothing specific.  I tried to go up there and they are never open when I am up at 5700.

This is an awesome site. There are lot of Attorneys in the country but which one is the best and who can handle the case matters most. Different court cases require different Attorneys . Find the right attorney for your legal battle.
