Boy, that is some subject line for a WLS person!!  We are having a chocolate fountain at Scott's reception simply because a friend insisted we use it.  It belongs to her church and when I got the fountain there is not one word of instructions on how to use it.  From reading the outside of the box it appears that I will need to melt the chocolate before putting it in the fountain.  HELP!!!
I wish all of you were coming....  I would enjoy it so much.  It would be like a south Alabama reunion.  I know it is a fer piece to drive but I would feed you a meatball for your trouble!!!

It's best if you melt the chocolate (in a microwave) before you put it in, and it will take alot more chocolate than you think it will.  It also helps to add a little bit of vegetable oil to "thin" the chocolate a bit.   It also helps keep the flow going.  Most fountains have a heater built in to keep it warm.     I work for a caterer part time, and we often use almond bark or chocolate chips.  The chips will melt quicker than the bark...gotta watch the bark in the microwave it will scorch (esp if you use the white chocolate bark).  The fountain we use holds 25lbs of chocolate!!

Good luck!

Thank you Lisa!!!  Oh, by the way....what have you got planned for Saturday.....  Just kidding.
I bought two bags of the Wilton chocolate for fountains.  I think that is 4 pounds.  The fountain box said it would hold 3 to 6 pounds of chocolate.  I might pick up some chips to have on hand.  I would think chips would be a little less expensive.  I got the Wilton chocolate at Walmart for 14.97 a bag.  I thought that was a little expensive.

That was a little expensive, when the almond bark at $2-3 a block would have worked.  But, like I said, depending on the size of the fountain, you'll need alot of chocolate, so chips are a good idea.  And don't forget the oil - it helps smooth it out.
And yes, it is a pain to clean up, lol.

We had one at our wedding and it was a HUGE hit.. we ordered the liquid online it was a little more expensive and a WHOLE lot messy! If I ever need to do it again I will go that route again! I would melt it in the microwave you will prob need to add a little oil to it as well.  And keep lots of extra chocolate on hand and be ready to refill as it takes a lot to run the fountain part and it will be used! We also did a warm one and a cold one the cold had ranch dressing and all kinds of veggies were dipped in it! They are so much fun!  We had everything you could imagine that you could dip in the chocolate and my flower girl ever poured it over her piece of wedding cake! If I were you I would have someone "in charge" of watching it as it did need refills etc! Heres what the ranch looked like:

depending on the size of the machine, it takes atleast  4 or 5 bags of chocolate chips for a small one, melted in the microwave and vegetable oil added to it.....But let me just warn you, it is a complete and TOTAL pain in the AZZ to clean up. I have one, use it twice, hate the clean up and guess where it's going???? NOT to Alabama with me. ROFL....In my yard sale!
