I was wondering if anyone here lives near Gunter-Maxwell AFB???? My husband is looking at getting orders to the area, we should know something in the next couple of weeks...If we get orders I'd kind of like ot know where to live and not live.

Thanks!

OH WOW!  You may be moving to Montgomery?  How cool.  I just moved from Luverne which was only 1 hour away.  Good to see you posting on the board and even more so that you could be an Alabamian!  HEHE!  Take care Cathi.

Hi Randall,
Yup its true, he got a call last Tuesday about a job he applied for there. He fed-x'd all his paperwork, now we just have to wait for the final word. He said he is pretty sure he'll get the job, but we're awaiting the final word.....I was there last Nov, but it was a very quick trip. I drove most of the way on the 18th, his graduation from the Sr. NCO academy was the 19th and we drove home the 20th, so I didnt really get to see anything. lol So are you in Montgomery now????

I will definately let you know if you get orders.

Welcome to the Bama Boards!
I live on the Gulf Coast. And I can tell you the people in Alabama are wonderful with great Southern charm. The Coasts are beautiful and the sunsets are amazing.
I don't know where that AFB is but I know where the one near Pensacola is. lol
My Brother in law is a Marine stationed in San Diego Ca. He is a helicopter mechanic.

Julie,
We were hoping for orders to FL, but ALworks too. When DH retires he wants to retire to the coast....So the closer we are the better.

You will want to look for homes in the east Montgomery area, Pike Road, Prattville, Millbrook or Wetumpka.  If you have children in schools, research the school systems in these areas.  That is usually the deciding factor for a lot of peple who move here.  Its a nice place to live, but you want to live in an area that meets your needs (schools, shopping, etc).

Good Luck!

Lala,
Those are the areas I heard were the best. It's good to hear it a second time. I do have one in school. He'll be 10th grade in the fall.

Thanks for the help.

I live in Millbrook (10 miles north of Montgomery), and I grew up in Montgomery. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. Good luck!
