As some of you read last week that I had taken my daughter to the doctor.. from there it was mostly for him to talk with her about her weight issue and with being so young,  I wanted him to check her tyroids, sugar and anything else that could cuse her to be overweight. ... She really did not know the real reason I was taking her to the doctor, but I figured since she was out of school that day,,, that I'd take her & for any test that could be given...mostly I wanted the doctor to talk to her about the complications being overweight could cause.. even later in life...  Ok.. so from there, with her only 13 1/2 years old.. he started talking about her ackne.. then slowly got into the issue of being overweight... sent her for blood work.. Got the results and her sugar is a little bit over it's level.... I'm asking for you all to keep my daughter and myself in your thoughts & prayers as it's going to be a long tough journey for her mostly to learn to stay away from sugars and carbs...  If you have any suggestions that you would like to share in this matter, please don't hesitate to post.....

I will be praying for you and your daughter.  Jennifer B. might be a great person to speak with about this.    I have not seen her around lately, but she may be lurking.  Also, are you still planning to be at Top of the River Saturday??   If so, I am bringing those things I was planning to mail.  You take care.

Keeping you and your daughter in my thoughts and prayers.  I was skinny as a kid/teen, but my I watched my sister struggle with her weight and saw how it affected her self esteem.   At 13, she still has time to make some changes in her lifestyle.

Take care!

I know it's got to be tough on her being at the weight she is.. but she acts though it doesn't bother her.. I know better... "I'm Mom" been there... but at her age I felt overweight and believe me she is way overweight for her age... I too have taken the fat gene from my mother's side of the family, now my daughter has too.. my son.. he's not at all chucky as a 5 year old.. but who knows as he grows up... I am so hoping that my daughter can wake up and see that hiding her eating is hurting her....with her hiding the eating she knows it's wrong...

Carmen, I'm not yet sure if I'll make it to the Oak Mountain thing on Saturday.. But I would really like exact directions or an exact address to enter in my GPS just in case I get to come... Sounds like alot of fun...

I'm praying for you and your daughter!!!
It is hard. I explain to Gerry my son who is 16, he cannot be over eating he will be overweight like I was. (this Sunday night this child ate 7 tv dinners) We bought them because they were out of school Mon & Tues for Mardi Gras and I wanted them to just have something to microwave since I would be live on the phones with customers. I got up Monday to be told by my other son he had no lunch. I said well, there's Roman noodles (I always keep those on hand- cheap and easy).
He wasn't happy. And I had a talk with Gerry. But his response is, he will do what I did have surgery. I said, yeah and if you have complications like ME??
Well.. the whole drill.

Oak Mtn is not this Saturday -it's the 1st Saturday in April so plan to come! Please I hope you get to. Top of the River is this Saturday!!

I know exactly what you're going through.  My beautiful DD ended up having WLS this past August at 23.  She was always heavy and, like your DD, for a long time she acted like it didn't bother her.  But she went through SO much because of it.  The best thing I can suggest is that you keep the lines of communication open, try to keep good food choices in your house without making an issue of it, get her to do active things with you like walking ,etc., and PRAY that she find good friends.  The greatest thing that happened to my DD in high school was that she was taken in by a group of girls in the drama class who loved her just the way she was.  These girls are pretty, smart and have wonderful personalities.  They are all still good friends and they were so supportive of Tara when she had her surgery.  This was a huge answer to prayer for me.  I thank God every day for that group of girls.  I KNOW HE sent them just for Tara.

Also, definitely stay on top of her labs.  Tara has PCOS and had all type of issues because of that.  We ended up going to an endocrinologist at UAB before she started college and she was helped somewhat by medication.

Most of all, try to make sure she knows how valuable and special she is.  If she has a bad day, let her talk about it but then get her to tell you something good that happened that day.  We did that ALOT.  And it helped.
