Swimming in lake water?

Has anyone had restrictions of swimming in lake water after surgery?  I have either read or heard that there was some type of restriction about swimming in lake water after surgery.  Anyone else heard this.

We tell patients to not submerge yourself in any water (bathtub, lake, river, swimming pool****il all incisions are completely healed.  If the incisions are not healed completely there is the potential that your incisions could become infected.  Also,  I tell our patients to not use any powder, perfumes, or lotions on their abdomen until the incisions are completely healed for the same reason.
