new to alabama

hi everyone! i have recently moved to southern alabama (daphne) from indiana and i am looking for a good bariatric surgeon for routine follow up care. i had RNY in july of 2006. i am the proud mommy of a beautiful 4 year old daughter and a gorgeous 4 month old son. i am 5'2", and the morning of surgery i was 238 pounds. my lowest weight since surgery was 104. i still have a little bit of baby weight left to lose but i am not working to hard at it right now. i am hovering around 115, and that is really okay with me. after i had my son i had a tubal, so no more kids for me. the next step will hopefully be a tummy tuck, so if anyone can suggest a good plastic surgeon in the area that would be helpful as well. my husband had bariatric surgery about a year after i did and he is also hoping to have some plastics done in the future. we both have had our fair share of complications (malnutrition with picc line and tpn, peterson's hernia, perforated bowel... you get the picture) but i know i would do it again in a heartbeat. i think he would say the same as well. i am a nurse and i used to work with a bariatric surgeon on information sessions for prospective patients. i would love to get involved in something like that here. not really as a job, more of just a hobby. i found that it made me hold myself more accountable if i knew i was going to be speaking to people about having surgery.

Hello to my new neighbor...I live in Daphne too!  I just had my surgery February of 2008 so I am still losing.  I highly recommend the surgeons at the SAMPAs (Surgical Associates of Mobile) group over in Mobile.  De. Lane is my surgeon, but all the surgeons in the group are top notch (it is a Center of Excellence).   I am sure they can recommend a great plastic surgeon.  I am not far enough out to have even started thinking about plastics yet (well...that's not entirely true...I am definitely having the "girls" lifted as soon as I reach goal...that's a definite). 

We have a great support group here in Baldwin county (Weight Down) and I would love to have you join us.  We meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Smoothie King in Foley.  This month our meeting is on the 13th though, as we are going to hear a special doctor speak.  (Julie has more details on this....lol).    We usually get to sample various protein smoothies and get free samples of other WLS friendly snacks, etc.  Julie C and Cynthia head up the support group.  Another member KristiQ and I usually carpool down to the meetings together so you can always ride with us if you want.  We'd love to have you join us.

I had surgery in January 2006. (I'm coming up on my 3 year anniversary!). I have a Power Port inserted in my chest. I had a gastric leak early on undetected, healed (PRAISE GOD) itself , and caused my liver to attatch itself to the wall.. so had to have surgery to peel away the liver.
I was on TPN for 15 months but things are very well for me now. Some pain, some vomiting but nothing I can't deal with and so much better after having surgery with Dr. Freeman!
My quality of life is so much better and I am so blessed!!
So I can certainly understand what you have been thru with complications.

I live in Orange Beach next the The Wharf. (ferris wheel, mall, ect.) Also not far from the beach.
