Prayers for my friend Loretta
Yesterday afternoon I met another board member in Dawson, Ga for a short (not near long enough) visit. I decided to run back by our newspaper office 10 miles from there to pick up some paperwork I needed. Just as I got into town I saw Loretta, the owner's wife walking their 3 dogs on leashes which she always does. I waved at her and then I saw the most horrific site. A PIT BULL came running toward her and the 3 dogs.
The pit lunged for Loretta. I was powerless. I could not get out of the car fast enough and when I did I knew I would be attacked. I screamed and hit my emergency button on my car key. A neighbor saw what was happening and came to try to help. By the hand of God, Loretta was not severly bitten. She has over 30 stitches and is bruised but otherwise she is ok. I only had 1 small bite and did not notice it until later.
This dog is always behind a chain link fence and has never presented a problem until yesterday. The owner is devistated at what happened. He wanted to immediately have the dog put down but being the animal lovers that Loretta and Dave are, they said no--only if ordered to do so.
Please pray for Loretta as I know she is very fearful right now.

OH Gwen how awful. I have worked with several children that was attacked by pit bulls and it is very tragic what the little fellows went thru. I remember 2 that had to go to surgery. Those are the only dogs when I workd peds that we ever saw children with these kind of bites. My nephew when he was about 5 got attacked by a dalamation that required about 45 sutures tot he face. We raised pit bulls when we were in Waycross and you just never know when they will turn on the owner or some one else. We will never have another one. I am so glad that you and she will be okay.
Yes the visit was not long enough.

Louise, the craziest thing about this is the pit wasn't going for the 3 dogs. He went straight for Loretta. She kept screaming for me to "take the puppies". In her terror she did not turn lose of the leashes so one of her fingers is pretty messed up where the leash tangled. All I could think of was getting that fat dog off her. Everything happened so fast I really can't tell what went on. Bill (her deputy brother-in-law) appeared out of what seemed like thin air. He was just getting off duty and suddenly after he was there the dog was on the ground and not moving. The dog wasn't dead but wasn't moving.
I later jokingly asked Bill if he tased the dog.

I totally agree with Gwen that is absolutely awful. Just never know when any animal is going to turn on a person especially a child. Guess that's why they are called ANIMALS. I've heard so many stories on the news how pit bull dogs turn on children and they are such awful stories that's why I would never agree for me & my family to own a pit bulldog.
