Does the weight loss ever stop?

Hey Guys! I had RNY on July 31, 2006. I started out at 376 lbs. and I'm now down to 172 lbs. (at the moment). Do you ever get sick of losing weight? The goal I had discussed with my doctor back before I had surgery was 175 lbs. because I knew my panni would never go away unless I had surgery to remove it. Before I got pregnant with my second child, I saw a plastic surgeon to have the panni removed and he said I had close to 35 lbs. of fat just in my stomach. With me being at 172 lbs. now, that means I would weigh ALOT less than I had ever anticipated once I had the panni removed. I'm tired of losing and want it to stop. I have been overweight (severly obese) my whole life, so I still wanted some "meat" on my bones. But, now, bone is all I see. Does the weight loss ever stop? I want mine to stop, but I can't seem to make it stop. I have even tried to get back into my old habits and that doesn't even work. I guess I'm saying I like where I am now weight wise, but can't seem to hold steady. Any advice, thoughts, or suggestions??  I guess I am having some issues with my image and need to "talk" to someone about it?

Karine:

WOW!  Congrats on your terrific success!!!  The way I understand it, the weight loss does taper off.  If you are still losing and can't stop it you might need to have a check up with your surgeon.  They are the ones that know this stuff the best.  Did you ever stall or did you lose the weight consistently?  I have gone back to some old habits (soda, some carbs I shouldn't have, etc) and am getting myself back to basics so that I can acheive my goal.  Still, if you are afraid you are losing too much, get back to yoiur doctors.  Have you discussed this with yoiur PCP?  What did they say?

Wishing you the best!

Hi Karine,

WOW!  Congrats on your success!

Will it stop?!?!?!

In my own case OH YEAH! It stopped and I have re- gained!  I reached 142 and was happy!  I could not afford any plastics and insurance called it cosmetic so it was out of the question for me.  I now weigh 157 and I am desperate to get back to 142!  That is my goal for this year to lose that weight!

I suggest you speak to your surgeon or primary and get their advise.

You look great in your picture!

Again, Congratulations!

Lisa

I can tell you what works for me. I had a metabolic test run. It said to lose I need to eat 1200 calories a day. To maintain 1500 calories and to gain 1800 calories. Everybody is different in their activities but close to that will be the norm. I weigh right at 140(5 foot 2 inches tall) but with me being nearly 60 I need more meat on my bones than a 30 year old. I also need a little fat to plump my wrinkles out.  I had my tummy tuck done 13 months ago and I weighted 155 before surgery and 137 after so 18 pounds of skin. "Most" insurance companies will cover the panni removal if you have constant skin fold infections. Follow thru with your PCP and go once a month with your skin fold infecrions and make sure your doctor documents the visit were for skin fold infection. After about 6 months check with your plastic surgeonand when they file their paperwork they can add a copy of your Primary and most of the time they will approve it. I was denied 2 times until I did this and was approved right away.
I hope some of this information has been helpful. Love, Miss Mary
