Saluting the flag
I have had some PM traffic concerning saluting the flag so I thought I would quote the law as passed by Congress and signed by the President.
Public Law 110-181, The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act changed Section 9, Title 4, U.S. Code, which covers "Conduct during hoisting, lowering or passing of flag." The change reads as follows:
"During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the flag or when the flag is passing in a parade or in review, all persons present in uniform should render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute. All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it over the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart."

It's funny (or not so funny) how many people do not know what is proper concerning the flag. It makes me mad to see torn and tattered flags flapping in the breeze. Why dont people and/or businesses replace flags when they are clearly worn out? I'd rather the flag be removed than to see one that appears to have been flying since the 1960's.
