One of the guys I work with is on his wife's State of ALabama employee insurance.....he was told that now BCBS only pays 50% of the doctor and anesthesiologist....can anyone confirm that is state policy now? It just doesnt seem right unless the benefit got totally abused a few years ago. He may get off their BC and on our company one for a year if needed.
Thanks

That was true 2 years ago, when I had RNY.  However, they do NOT require the 6 month diet like most BCBS insurance policies.

Well depends on what state department this person works for. I work for the State Department Of Mental Health and my BCBS paid for my RNY 100%, approved on the first try and every one who has had it since I have had it, have not had to pay anything except the usual co pays and the usual things they do not cover. I only had to pay about $500.00 out of pocket pre op, nothing post op, it even covered my hospital stay 100%. I would advise them to check the Alabama BCBS website. They can sign up for an account with their group number and the website will direct them to the information, according to their assigned group number.

My BCBS with the Dept. Of Mental Health is even paying 100% for tummy tuck and breast lift's. I know several, at work, who have been approved immediately recently and just had the usual co pays and usual fees surgeons require, which isnt very much. I did have to go to the ER, for my migraines recently and I have recieved a seperate bill now from the MD I saw in the ER, which I have never recieved before so some things may have changed.

From now on if I cant get my neurologist appt before I have another episode with migraines, I will just go to a, doc in the box and pay my co pay, instead of dealing with the ER ever again unless it is an emergency.  Hope this helps.

Hey, I have BCBSAL insurance (state employee) and I am having surgery on Dec. 18th, and I was told they would only pay 50% for the surgery and the anesthesiologist.  They do cover the consultation to see the surgeon, the nutritionist, and the psycholgoist visit, you only have to pay your copay.  I also had to show six months of supervised dieting.  I did weigh****chers and they accepted.

My surgeons office is really knowledgeable when it comes to the requirements for your insurance and I didn't have any problems getting approved.  I just became a litlle frustrated about how slow they were moving, but in the end they knew exactly what they were doing and everything worked out for the best.  I hope everything work out for the best.
