Prohibited Medicine HELP needed!
Hi Miss Connie, havent "talked" to you in ages. Good to see you again! I have had the same problem. Prilosec never worked for me, neither does Nexium or Protonix. Ive tried all the newer ones, none helped me.
I took Zantac pre op, so I went to Dollar General and bought a bottle of the generic Zantac ( Ranitidine is on the package) it much cheaper than buying it anywhere else, less than $3.00 a bottle). I took 2 tabs ( 150mg which was my usual dose, pre op) and my pain was gone within 20 minutes and didnt return.
I keep a bottle in my purse/work bag havent had to use any in 2 months now, but it does work if GERD is the problem. I think mine was caused by drinking too much coffee. Caffiene will do this to our tummies so if you have had tea, coffee or anything with caffiene in it, it can also cause this. Check with your Doctor and see if you can try the Zantac. I didnt, I just went and bought it, took it because I knew it would work. Sometimes these new meds they are coming out with now like Nexium and Prilosec or Protonix just are not as good as the older drugs so I will always stick with my Zantac because it does work.

Thanks for the info Sandy. I've been taking Prilosec since four months after my surgery, Oct 11, 2004 and have never had any problem. Jan posted about oranges and I have been eating one or two a day. My fruit of choice has been bananas, but I was eating WAY too many and gaining so much weight so I turned to oranges. That is the only thing I have added to my diet besides yogurt.
i will get some Zantac tomorrow. I just took a Tylox (had two left from headaches I was having a few weeks back) and I don't feel any pain. I know my stomach is still 'upset' but this is a temporary fix until I can get out tomorrow and get some Zantac.
I don't do caffiene, just decaf tea. Thanks again. I'll let you know if it works.
