Surgery in Mexico??
I would be very careful about what I did in Mexico. I lived on the Texas-Mexico border for many years and while they have some excellent surgeons and hospitals, you may develop infections because of a lack of immunity to their environment. It is often hard enough to just be a tourist there without an open wound. You also have to consider the language barrier. Unless you are very fluent in Spani**** could be a very iffy situation. Yes, many do speak English and were educated in the US, but the standard of cleanliness is different there. You do have to choose carefully and there is more of a risk of problems in Mexico than in hospitals here.
All WLS can be dangerous. If the medical community was as safe and experienced as it is here, then wouldn't it make sense that the large man in Mexico would have had his surgery there instead of the US?

Hi and Welcome!
The only thing I can add to this post about Mexican surgeries is what I have read on the LapBand board. I have heard that a lot of MDs will not accept patients from Mexico because of the liability of possible post-surgical events. However, this could only be related to LapBand folks and not Sleeve. You may want to post on the Sleeve board too!
Good luck with your decision and please feel free to keep us updated. There is a lot of support on this board.
Peace, Nanci
