Don't be fooled!

With the Holiday season coming upon us, and after noticing several posts on the board this morning, I just want to remind everyone to be careful and not let yourselves become the victims of a scam.  Now...before I am flamed, I am NOT SAYING that any request for donations or help on on the Alabama board have been a scam.  I'm just saying, don't let your hearts take over your better judgement and common sense.  If any of you have read some of the other boards over the past month or so, you may have become aware of one of the members (who had been a member for OVER TWO YEARS) being involved in a piti party scheme to swindle other members out of money and other things.  This woman faked cancer, and was obviously very good at deceiving many members of the board.  She has since been arrested and investigations are going on to determine exactly how much money and how many people were victims of this woman's scam.  Just because you have known someone for years, it does not mean that they don't have secrets to hide and issues you don't know about.  Be careful, not just on this board, but also in your every day, personal lives.  Make sure before you donate any money to anyone, that you look at the situation with open minds and not just a heavy heart.  Some people will take every opportunity to get whatever they can from whoever, and go about it in whatever way they can.  Also , please note that this board has terms of service which are supposed to restrict any unsolicited advertising and request for donations for personal gain.  Whether you are asking for yourself or on behalf of someone else.  PLEASE!  If you are trying to collect monetary donations for "needy" people, do it off of the board.  Below is a partial copy of OH's terms of service.  Sorry if this ****** anyone off; but, I just felt like I needed to remind people of the dangers of being too compassionate. 

Advertising and Selling

Unsolicited advertising or other forms of solicitation, including but not limited to monetary donations for personal profit, are not allowed. Members who are affiliates/referrers for a company may not advertise or push a product or company on the message boards or in their signature lines. Members found to be receiving financial gain or kickbacks for this type of advertising may be removed for abuse of the system. Paid Advertisers are allowed to post a simple link to their advertised website. For details on how to become an advertiser with ObesityHelp, e-mail [email protected]. 

Any use by you of any other subscriber's information, personal or otherwise, for any commercial or non-commercial purpose or to obtain direct financial gain (e.g. mass marketing) is prohibited.  Any such use shall be deemed to be a violation of these Terms of Service

Thanks One Son . I too donate my self and I am a very giving person. I sat everyday and watched the Cheri ordeal play out , and cried to see the amazing people who stepped up and helped her. Women with cancer to sick themselves got up and made projects to sell and went out themselves to sell them. It just broke my heart . As I have never met Lindy I have talk to her in Pm's and did know that she is in need , we have several here on the Bama board in need and Susan fixed A Christmas Wish List approved thru OH before she posted it . It is handled in a manner of private Pm's to her. Which I think was Great ! I too was not dishing on the board of helping others. I read allot of post on the OH boards, and find myself lying in bed thinking of people and have never even talked to them. I did not take your post as bashing ,just warning of the scams.  Hope you have a good day!

Christy I did not report any of these post.  I just knew the point that OneSon was making about the prior scams on this board. She wasn't spanking hands as so to say. She just spoke her mind as many here have. I like you and nothing personal in what I had to say. What you did for Lindy was great, If I were in the position to help I would . But did you happen to notice that OneSon offered to pay Lindy's Co-Pay ? She was just stating to make sure that everyone made a point to know they were legit as there are so many wrong- doers. I think my personal self that if any one wants to help her out,  of respect for her to keep it private in Pm's and e-mail. As I wouldn't want it on the Internet if I was the on the receiving end. I was just wanting to respect her.

I'm not arguing nor do I have any desire to. I am not going to fight with anyone on this board over something this silly. I was simply pointing out there WAS a post yesterday about Sponsors on the Christmas list was is apparently inappropriate as well, it was pulled as well. I'm not saying its right to post everything on the board but at the same time there's a LOT of stuff that is posted here that is not WLS related. Does that mean its not acceptable for the board.? I read every day about the Cheri stuff as well, as I do lurk over on the R&R board, but this is a very different situation. I dont know that I have posted anything out of line about Lindys personal stuff and if I have I am sorry and will let her know Im very sorry too, I have tried to keep everything I have done to PMs aside from when I am asked something. Any I have said what I have to say and am done talking about this.

No one is scamming anyone here this is a real need.I see you have not been on the board verey long and i hope you will remain here for a long time then you will see how supportive we are of one another.   we would never scam anyone for anything.Christy can tell you there is a real need her just because some people can't behave them selves doesn't mean everyone is bad. You don't have to give if you think it is a scam, but most of the people on the Bama Board know each other and know our needs. I was not posting on any board But the Bama Board and was just asking a few people to help her get the help she needs to go into the hospital.Lindy has not asked for help.It is not your job to say what you have said.this was not mass marketing for personal gain. i will do it where ever i want to.

i dont think she is singleing you out  or lindy i think she is just making a point to be careful about how to translate people asking for stuff.

she said she was not gearing toward anyone on this board.  suck your chest back in and go help who you want to and need to.

i think oneson was only making a blanket statement.
