Head Hunger Help!

OK, my surgery date was August 28, 2008...I am doing pretty well, have lost a total of 58 lbs, but here in the last week I seem to be hungry and I can't tell if it is Head hunger or genuine hunger.  I really think it is head hunger more than anything and I don't seem to know how to deal with it.  I am so afraid to eat any kind of snack in between meals because I do not want to start back on old patterns.  I am trying to only snack on things like carrots, apples, protein bars, but I wonder if this even good for me to do?

Just a few thoughts from the voices of experience would be appreciated.

I STILL have head hunger from time to time!  Usually means I need some more water.  Are you making sure to get all your water in?  It is still the most difficult thing I have to do.  But when I do it, I am always full and start dropping pounds again!  Hang in there!!!

Hi surgery sister! It's so good to hear from you. Tho I don't have any answers for you know that I too am going through the same thing today. I think its stress. I use to eat when stressed. I'm stressed out now and have felt hungry all day long. So I too am wondering what others will say. Miss you bunches, call me sometime. Love ya!

Hi Stephanie,
CONGRATS on -58 lbs..thats AWESOME!! This is something that most of us struggle with..like John said, make sure you are getting 64 oz of water in daily. At mealtime, try to focus more on protein.. protein is more filling and will keep you fuller  longer.  As a WLS patients we need at least 60 to 70 grams of protein per day. Our bodys dont store protein so we need this everyday. Protein bars, protein shakes, string cheese, peanut butter, yogurt and pudding /with added protein are a few good snacks.  I keep protein filled snacks on hand all the time..because somedays I have to have a snack between meals. Carrots and apples tho they are good for you..they are carbs and will make you more hungry. Hope this helps!!
Love ya,
Michele

I don't know about everyone else but I was told to eat 6 times a day 6 small meals so I take a regular size meal and half it so basically I have 2 breakfast 2 lunches and 2 dinners then if I feel the need to snack I have almonds high in protein and also I add protein to my drinks.

So I get it in that way also just make sure when you put something in your mouth it is low carbs and high protein and you should shed it like no tomorrow.

You are actually doing great I have lost about 130 pounds and my one year is in 19 days so be proud of where you are at

When you eat your apples add peanut butter

carrots not so sure those are so good as they are very fibrous can cause a blockage.

Good luck to you
