Sorry for the no posting lately but I have been really busy...

and now I am posting because I need something.. Isn't that awful...

Well on to my question..
Has anyone experienced ulcers after gastric bypass? and do you know what symptoms would come with that? Would they be the same as a person with a regular stomach?

Or if their is a website that talks about it I can't find it....

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!

Kelly...it is so great to see you!!!!  I thought I had an ulcer shortly after surgery.  However, Dr. Freeman put me on a pill for my stomach, which I still take if I need it, but seldom do and that helped so much.  I really don't remember what was wrong, but I know that at times I felt as though my stomach was going into my back.  I was in pain.  I wish I could be of more help, but I have had very very little trouble since surgery.  I know there are those on here who can help, though.  I just wanted to pop in and say HI!!

burning, burning, burning... like someone's raking their fingernails all inside your intestines/stomach and then shoulder/back pain and burning up into your esophagus/throat. i had a perforated ulcer at 26 days out and have dealt with continuing gastritis ever since (and i suspect that i have an ulcer right now simply due to the enormous amount of stress i'm currently under and the way the pain has come back.) but i take prevacid and carafate so hopefully i won't have another perforation. when in doubt, call your surgeon or another medical professional.

So great to get to talk to you on Tuesday and for you to call on Gerry's Birthday!

Wish I could have talked abit longer but just getting home and dinner well ya know....

Anyway I am praying this is not an ulcer. Chelle called me the other day and I felt it was just food stuck and Praise God it was!!! She called me back in about an hour feeling better.
I am praying you will be posting that you are feeling better soon too.
I don't know about ulcers but to say I know that others have had them and will be posting I'm sure!!
Call Dr. DeWitt and get in to see him - He is seeing patients in Gardendale so it will be close for you to go!

i'm not entirely certain who this was intended for but since i'm the only person on here who's mentioned carafate i *think* it was directed at me (but feel free to correct me if i'm mistaken.)

no, i haven't had any trouble with carafate. and no, i haven't experienced any regain either. my 2 year surgiversary is coming up in about 3 weeks and i currently weigh right at 100 pounds. (that's down from a high of 254.) some people believe this to be a very low weight but you must also consider the fact that i'm only 5'0" which puts me right on target

Hi, Kelly,

I just had gastric perforations (3) repaired.  I take the OmIaziparole (generic) and have for years.  My bypass surgery was 3.5 uhad absolutely no symptoms until one morning, I was drinking some coffee and started to feel some weird pains in my stomach.  I took some Mylanta and it got worse.  The pain escalated quickly to the point where I was screaming on my bed.  I have a child and the pain was worse than labor.  The pain went up into my collarbone.    I've never felt pain like it.  I felt like I was going to pass out and I was sweating like crazy.

Ambulance took me straight in and I went in to surgery.  They said I had 3 ulcers.  I have metal staples from my chest all the way down.  I was in the hospital for 8 days.  Fortunately, I had a wonderful nursing staff.  Came home yesterday and had quite a bit of pain even after taking pain med.  Today, I'm feeling better but don't know when I'll return to work.  Supposed to see my primary care asap.

This seems to be somewhat common based on what I've read.  Pray you have some symptoms so you can gdet to a dr. fast.

You can have h pylori more than once.  I have had it several times.  I was also postive when I had surgery and got very sick.  I also have been postive in the last several years an took the prev pack.   If you have a husband make sure he is also tested.  You can pass it between the 2 of you.

I testes positive for hpylori prior to surgery and they gave me antibiotics. And just recently I was retested because I had been having some severe stomach pains and yes I tested positive again. I took my antibiotics and I'm taking prilosec. Waiting to go back to the doctor so I can see what's going on.
