Finally getting to explain everything...
First off thank you all for the prayers. I know they were what got us through this.
Nate became sick with what we thought was a head cold type illness Tuesday before last. We took him to the after hours clinic after school that evening and he came home with a buncha meds and the Dr there said he had an ear infection and a sinus infection. The antibotics they gave him made him sick to his tummy and he started throwing that up on Thursday. It progressed to not being able to keep food down by that afternoon so Rob (my DH) took him to urgent care that evening while I was at the support group meeting with Michele. They got back and they had switched his antibotic and wrote him out phinagrin (spell check that lol) They said that he was prolly sick at his tummy because of the meds and that the new meds should work. He was still sick that night and couldnt hold anything down. He started getting extreme thrist and couldnt even hold down water. By 4:30 Friday morning I started getting scared about dehydration so I told DH to get up we were taking him to the ER. I got Nate up and he walked to the bathroom. He fell in there but didnt get hurt. I helped him up and took him to the bed. we were getting him dressed because he was too weak to do him himself and he started falling backward like he was passing out on me. I yelled his name and he came too and I got scared and called 911. The ambulance gets there and carries us to Jasper hospital and there is where we find out his sugar level was 580 and hes a type 1 diabetic. They were gonna air lift him to childrens but the weather didnt permit it, so they sent an ambulance. We got to childrens and they put him in the pediactric ICU to bring his sugar down. Within 24 hrs it was back to normal levels. He was asleep for most of the tramatic stuff. Thank you Jesus. It was very very very tramatic for us all. I lost my mom to diabetes 6 yrs ago and thats all that I could think of and I was scared. The staff at childrens were very nice and explained that he has a different type than what my mom had. I later found out that even tho he will be on insulin shots for the rest of his life that the type he has is alot easier to take care of and keep in control. He doesnt have as many food resrictions like she did. And he will go on to live a normal 10 yr old life except for the shots. Which by the way he has been a trooper about them and hasnt complained the first time. And hes feeling much much better. Better than he has in a long long time he says. So please continue to pray for us and thank God that this is something controlable and not something the Drs have no idea about. We have learned alot in such a short amount of time and my head has been reeling about the things I have to do everyday and the things we havent done yet but need to do. I'm waiting now on the school to call me so I can go meet with them and teach them what they need to know to take care of him there. This is a total life style change for us and anyone else that is a part of Nates life. But as I see it, this was part of Gods plan for us and it will only make us stronger as a family. I love you all and thank you again for all the pryaers.
