I have a question

I know there are several of us "old timers" (refering to surgery date here!!...lol) on this board. Anyway, my question is for all us oldies but goodies...lol. Several times the past week or two I have woke up hungry. This is something I have not experienced post op until the last couple of weeks. It has been bothering me because I couldn't seem to figure out why I have been being hungry first thing every morning. Yesterday, I noticed the hungry feeling but I also noticed I seemed to be thirsty. This morning, same thing only I noticed I was very thirsty. This morning, my light  bulb came on. Is this actually mild dehydration instead of hunger? I have heard that by the time you experience thirst, you are already partially dehydrated (fact or myth??). Does/Has anyone else experienced this feeling first thing in the a.m.? I am leaning towards needing to up my fluid intake verses it being real hunger since I have not had a problem with this before. What is your opinion? Thanks in advance...

Could be dehydration, but frst of all I'd check my blood sugar.  Do you have a blood glucose monitor?  My blood sugars leveled out after two years.  I was off all my medication for diabetes.  For the past 2 years I've had to take Byetta for it.  It works wonders and has kept me off insulin.  Please get your blood sugar checked.  Just my oppinion.

I do have a meter. It is one of my moms old ones. I never had problems with blood sugar pre op. NOw I have reactive hypoglycemia. I will get it out and check it first thing in the morning. I have already had breakfast this morning (a scrambled egg and two pieces of bacon). Working on my coffee now. Thanks Elle, I had not thought of blood sugars.

It's just a very common thing for me.  I wake up in the middle of the night thirsty sometimes.

Oddly enough, I only wake up hungry on weekends.  Weekdays I don't eat breakfast until mid-morning and am not even hungry until then.  Lately though I have been waking up in the middle fo the night with the munchies.  All it takes is a couple of bites of something and I can get back to sleep.  This night time snacking has got to stop though.  I have no idea why I would wake up at 3am craving something.  My sugar levels are and have always been normal.  I'm thinking it's the Ambien I take sometimes to help me sleep.  But that doesn't explain the nights that I don't take it.

I was just gonna ask you if you took AMBIEN before I finished reading your post.  YES, IT"S THE AMBIEN!  Get your doctor to change your meds.  I used to do crazy things in my sleep.  I would get up and eat and make phone calls and get out all my cookbooks, I started falling and hurting myself and never even know I'd been up outta bed.  Only when I started getting bruises to show my doctor, he finally changed my meds.  Kyle worked nights so sometimes the girls would witness what I was doing and help me back to bed.

LOL....I had heard that Ambien could do that.  My doctor even warned me about it, but I assumed it was more like sleep walking/eating.  I reckon I better lay off the Ambien unless I absolutely cannot sleep.  Don't wanna go gaining weight when I should still be losing.  Thanks for noticing that it was probably the Ambien.
