daughter in hospital 20 days...m

i haven't been here lately....long story...i'll try to make it short....here it goes.  Oct. 3 my 20 yr old daughter was put in our local hospital (Florence AL...ECM)...where she spent 16 days.  She has had lapband for 18 months (another story here...my mother took her to Texas when Brooke just turned 19 had lapband surgery done, NEVER TOLD ME...I found out a YEAR later...I was very mad)...anyway, she couldnt keep anything down not even water.  After a week they put in a special IV to give her some nutrition in her upper arm that threads into her artery....she weighs 138 now and is 5'8.  She looked awful....the two dr's kept doing the same tests....saying it was edema in her esophogus, it should get better tomorrow....tomorrow....tomorrow...well it didnt....they said the lapband is fine....well....my mother (she teaches nursing at UNA) got the Dr to send her to UAB...this was day 16 she was sent by ambulance on the two hr drive to Birmingham.  Got there about 8pm....the next morning they did a upper GI and the Dr (Dr Clements) came in and said he knew what the problem was....he did surgery the next day and she went home the next morning...her stomach had slipped ABOVE her lapband causing her stomach to lap over....kind of like when you kink a water hose...that is what her esophagus was...kinked....Dr. Clements was amazing.

Anyway thought i'd share.  I can't beleive ECM kept her that long and her Kidney function was declining!!!!!  she was starving to death even with the IV.....

she's good now.....

lets see...update on me....i've lost 52 lbs...its been 2 months Oct 20th.  I've had no problems whatsoever.  Feeling really good.  Really glad i had this surgery!

Oh Donna, I am so sorry to hear this has happened but glad that Dr. Clements was able to find out what was wrong and take care of it.  Glad to hear allis well with you too!  Prayers being said that all continues to go well with you both!

yeah... ecm, keller and shoals are all suckey hospitals. look what happened to renee a (who was ALSO saved by dr. clements in b'ham, btw!)

i'm sorry to hear about all that but happy that it had a good ending afterall

Donna, I'm so glad that your daughter got the help she needed. WOW! Some people (doctors included) just don't understand
