ICE Public Service Announcement

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency.  I just got an email from  my cousin who works in the emergency room of the hospital in Cleburne.  Her email said that EMTs are starting a campaign to ask people to put into their cell phones ICE and then the number of the person to call in the event of an emergency.

  If you have more than one person, you do ICE 1, ICE 2; ICE 3, etc.  The rationale is that at nearly every accident site or medical emergency, the EMTs find a cell phone with lots of numbers, but they don't know which one to call to notify the person's relatives or friends.  If these people were designated by ICE, then the EMT could get to the people who most need to know immediately.  They could actually meet them at the hospital. 

I am sure no emergency room is going to turn you away with out a relative there, but it would ease the process as well as ease the victim to have a close friend or relative there.  In some cases, this could be extremely important if all the medical information was not on the person...allergies, diabetes, gastric bypass, etc.  You see the merit of this indication.

Karla this is a great idea.  Ihave many foind cell phones at the store where I work and we had to go in and try to find a # to call to report the phone found.  We usually look for Mom, Dad, ect.  This is a great idea, thanks for sharing!

I've had ICE in my cell phone for over a year now. I think I received an email from someone telling me about it. I think its a great idea.

I have it in my phone already too.  I think its a good idea. I also have my info on my watch like RNY and all that.

Thanks for the info. I'll definately put that in my cell and pass the info. along to friends and co-workers.
