OT: Sirens

Ok...this has nothing to do with WLS....but did anyone just hear the sirens?  I'm still pretty new to AL and have only heard the sirens once before (during Hurricane Gustav).  Does anyone know why the sirens went off around 10 mins ago?  Was it a test?  It's kind of un-nerving to hear those!  (Especially since I'm from CA!)

Thanks
Liz

Hi there Liz,  I too just heard the sirens here in Jemison...which is a good 25 minutes away from you.  I honestly have no idea why they were going off.  They usually do a monthly test so that might be it.  I live a few miles away fromt he sirens so we never can hear what they say.....I dont think there is any bad weather in store for us.  Hopeflly someone has an answer for us!

PERFECTLY NORMAL!!! The first Wednesday of every month they run them to assure they are working. The cable companies also run bullentins in some counties. So what you heard was one of those unseen "This is a test. This is a test of the emergency broadcast systems. This is only a test." Sometimes the schools plan their drills on these days too.

Thank you so much for the info.  We've been here since mid May but that's only the second time I've heard the sirens.  I feel much better now!  Thank you!

Welcome to Alabama!!!

My sister is a Marine wife.. They are stationed in San Diego at Mirmar. I miss them so much!!
She had RNY also in 2005.

I hear sirens alot down here on the Gulf Coast especially during Hurricane Season.

Do you hear sirens for earthquakes in Cali? Just curious..

Its 330pm on Wednesday and our Sirens just went off.  Sometimes you just forget and look at the calendar and say oh its just the first Wendesday.

Stacy- I had to laugh at your post.  When I was reading it, I envisoned this Homer Simpson character eating a donut looking at the calendar and saying...duh...I thought I forgot something today...gotta pull the alarm.
