I  have been driving the schoolbus for nearly 25 years so it takes a lot for me to be shocked and for me to be shocked to the point I'm speachless is pretty near impossible. But today it happened. I got a phone call and a man said hi. I said hello. He ask how I was doing I said great, how about you. He started talking and I told him I believe you have the wrong number. He said no I've got the right number. I told him this is the Mapes residence(I don't get phone calls from men, I knew it wasn't for me)He said I know and this is Jean. I said who is this. He said Grady. I don't know any Grady. He said yes you do. I think I know who I know and I don't know any Grady. Then he said Grady xxx. My God I was married to him a one time a million years ago. When I was 16 I married him and left him when I was 18. After 41 years he calls me and wants to see me. Errrr. I am pretty forgetful in my old age but I do remember there was a reason I left and I'm perfectly happy right now so needless to say I won't be meeting up with him. I am curious about what he looks like now(he was one fine looking young man)A few years ago I heard he looked like the guy in the Oak Ridge Boys, you know the one with all the hair. But I'm going by the old adage"Curosity killed the cat" so I'll just stay curious and  keep to myself.

Well Miss Mary, I know exactly how you feel.  My first husband won't leave me alone either......Oh yea, Jimmy is my first husband I just had one of those SENIOR moments!!!

Oh Aunt Mary.....the curiosity would KILL me.  I'd just have to take a peek and find out for myself, no matter what.  Bless you woman.  It was mighty brave of him to call you like that.

Ummm.. watch out Grady might just show up at the door.... somehow he got the number and for whatever reason called!

OH, I know exactly how he got the number. I have 3 half sister who live in the same town he lives in. His reason for calling was he is now alone(he never remarried but did live with a woman for years)and I am alone and he thought we might be alone together. Not going to happen. Really and truly he just got to wondering what I looked like now. I told him I weighted 240 and didn't have any teeth left.

I won't get to come down this weekend. I've got to work. I wish I could. I would love to go to the wedding and to see everyone but it sure is a long way down and I've got responsibilities here. I'm sure I'll have some fun this weekend to. You take care of yourself and I hope to see you sometime soon. Love, Miss Mary

Mary, my first husband showed up on my doorstep after 25 years!  I was stunned myself.  We talked some and I actually made some peace with the whole situation.  We didn't continue to see each other...like you said, there was a reason I left him, but it was an interesting time.  After hating him for 25 years, I now feel as if we parted friends this time. 

It's been a couple of years now since he showed up so I don't know what happened to him after we stopped talking, but I'm glad we talked. 

You might tell him you will meet him for coffee, but you aren't interested in anything more than a one coffee meeting.

Of course, there are some men...most of them...who do not understand the words "not interested" and will continue to call.  Only you can make that decision.

It is a very curious situation though.  If my ex had just called me, I would have said no, but he just showed up on my doorstep.  I didn't even know who he was.

If my SECOND husband called me or showed up on my doorstep, I would call 911 immediately.  It all depends on the man and the cir****tances, I guess.

Miss Mary, if you didn't recognize the voice or even remember a man you were once married to, I believe that tells us something about the relationship.  Sounds like he was worth forgetting and not much to remember....I would be careful, too.  It is very unusual for things to be different the second time around, no matter how many years have passed.  But you might still see him, just to reassure yourself that you made the right decision long ago.

I spent a lot of time and energy trying to forget him. I don't have to see him to to be reassured I made the right decision. I know I made the right one, just not soon enough. Love, Miss Mary
