Bad Day

This has truly been a bad for me. It has brought back so many memories from a little over 2 years ago. I have had Chris on my mind all day after reading about Donna. I have told Chris story twice today. I am thinking that this would be a good time for me to tell this story again as it might save another child.
July 3 2006 my 14 year old grandson died suddenly. It also was my sons birthday. When Jay called me at 12:54am to tell me he could not give us any details as no one knew what had cause his death. When we got the post back we knew. You see Chris had a bad habit of chewing on anything that he could put in his mouth. That night he was chewing on a piece of plastic that went on the terminal of an 8 volt battery. He accidentaly swallowed it. It made a prefect stopper in the airway.
Parents and grandparents please, please, don't let your babies chew on anything but food. I also now will not let my grandbabies chew gum for the very same reason. I know you can choke and die on food. I hope and pray that telling Chris story tonight might help save someone else the heartache that we have been thru.

Louise, that just breaks my heart.  My great niece is always putting things in her mouth...she's 11 months old.

One thing that I always worry about too is everyone who puts peppermints or chewing gum in their mouths while they are driving.  One crash and that peppermint could go in your throat and choke you.

Be safe everyone!
Love,

Tell about Chris every day if it helps. That has to be a parents worst nightmare. I have never been in that situation but I believe I would want to crawl in with my grandchild if that happened.

Joni brought out a good point.  I am the worlds worst at putting a peppermint in my mouth as a coughdrop and when the cough comes I have the mint in there.

Wow...I know this is still difficult for you and your family. My heart goes out to you all.

Oh, Louise,
I am so sorry. I just can't imagine!!
Both of my boys at home ave a habit of chewing on stuff..pens, water bottle caps, etc. I admonish them every time I catch them!! They think I am paranoid!! And maybe I am.

A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything.

I am so sorry for your lose Louise, I really couldnt imagine. I have been telling this SAME thing all week .. this past week a girl at work lost her 15 month old baby because he choked on a quarter! Please please keep an eye on the little ones they should not be allowed to have anything that will fit in a paper towel tube! This is so important to learn! Lets help keep the little ones safe!
