LOW Blood Sugar!

Anybody else have this problem post op?  Mine has done it on occasion just after surgery...but once I got to where I was eating more, it leveled out.  But in the past couple weeks it's started doing it again.  This time, it does it for no apparant reason.  I can't relate it back to anything I've eaten or not eaten prior to the point it drops.

I went to the dr this morning.  He did some blood work to check pancrease functions, anemia, etc.  He said I may have to go back on Metformin because it not only keeps your bs from going too high but it will also help keep it from going too low.  (Kinda like a mood stabilizer for your pancreas)  He also told me to start taking Chromian Picolate (in the vitamin aisle) and that would help regulate my insulin.  Also follow the diabetic diet (which I pretty much already do).  I go back in 2 weeks to get the results from my bloodwork.

Just wondering if anybody else has had to go back on diabetes meds for the same reason????  I had surgery to get off the meds, so I'm kinda bummed out about possibly having to go back on them...even if it's for the opposite problem.

Rhonda, I have had to deal with low blood sugar since my surgery. Whenever I bring it up to Dr. Dewitt, he tells me to eat ONLY protein. He said if I eat anything else, I am not getting enough protein. The funny thing is that it does help. I love my veggies, fruits & whole grains, but I do feel better when I eat mostly protein. Old habits die hard though.

Another point: I think some medicines make my sugar drop. I have noticed since I am off all steroids that I haven't has nearly as much trouble with it.
