Low Sodium

Can you believe this. My labs keep coming up with dangerious low levels of sodium. And apparently I am the cause. I have hyponatremia which means the sodium has been overdiluted in the body. I drink enormous amounts of Grape propel water a day. I drink five to ten liters of propel a day. I was told to cut it back to 64 oz and eat salty foods. I have already put on weight due to the steriods they have put me on for chronic asthma and now they want me to give up the only thing that I enjoy and on top of that eat salt. I was told this was very serious and if left untreated it could cause organ damage or organ failure. I've tried cutting back but it is so hard. I crave propel water. I can't go back to Dr. Schmitt for help because I don't have any insurance. Ya know the saying if it aint one thing it's another. So, even though in my case it's not funny be ware you CAN DRINK TOO MUCH WATER!

Tina,

Sorry you are having these problems.  Is it the propel causing the problem?

Are you on the steroids long term or just short term?

I've never heard of this problem but I'm sure some others have and can offer some advice.

Good Luck to ya,

Dixie

YES...you can drink too much water.  There was an article on MSN not too long ago about a woman who died after a stunt for a radio contest where she drank too much water (for the contest).  The 2nd place winner had to go to the ER and was admitted for some time also.  If she hadn't from what I heard, should would have died also.  They caught hers in time.  I dont' remember all the details about it...but you definitely can die from drinking too much water.
