all the gas stations here in our neck of the woods went up 30 cent overnight, which is a crock, and we are going to stick around the house and not pay these prices!

It is not a matter of the storm lasing long or not.  It is a matter of the huge number of oil wells in the Gulf that may be destroyed when this hurricane hits.  In addition, where it i****ting is where the major refineries are located that process the gas that you are using.  Tapping the reserve will not solve this problem, what will solve this problem is that the hurricane doesn't take out the oil production system that is in place.  Basically the same thing happened in when Katrina hit New Orleans, but the Texas refineries continued to operate and were unaffected.  The ones in Louisiana have not been replaced, so now there is a crisis for production, not for the actual oil.  Remember the "reserves" are not processed....the problem is with processing.

You need to calm down, and get ready to pay through the nose for a while.  We are still paying less than they do in Europe.  We need to find other ways to use our vehicles more cost effectively and alternative fuels...but all of that takes time.

It might be more effective to pray that the oil refineries and the wells don't take a major hit.

Huntsville Here....I did see gas for $3.66 on my way home today--at the Kangaroo at Winchester and the Parkway, but the lines were LONG!

I ended up topping off my tank for $3.84 at the Raceway
(Waters General Store) in Meridianville and only had three cars in line in front of me.

It is times like these that I am very thankful for the VERY FUEL EFFICIENT Toyota Corolla that I drive. I will be even more thankful in about 10 months when it is paid off!

I have put limits on my driving with the gas prices having been so high the past few months. I have been filling my tank on Sundays---and have been driving all week on usually less than 1/2 of a tank. I think that is doing pretty good. I drive to and from work every day and will do a little extra if I need to or have to...but other than that, I have been spending a lot of time at home.

I am hoping this last surge in prices will be a temporary one---how are we supposed to get by anymore with prices like they are??? I am keeping my eyes open for a part time job to supplement my present income. I have a couple of good leads, but I just don't know for sure!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Several gas stations here at out of gas and I just got a call that gas that was 4.79 a gallon at one station that did currently have gas. Lines were very long this afternoon and prices changing frequently.

several stations here (gadsden) are sold out of gas too. DH filled up my car this afternoon for $3.79 (.20 increase since yesterday!) but there was a gas station a mile down the road that was already at $3.99! i can only imagine what the price is now. i'm with carolyn-i've severely cut down my driving since the prices started climbing in february. i go to town twice per week (dance class and groceries-gotta wait for the paycheck to get the food) and take eryn to school & back-otherwise, you'll find me right here at home. good thing i'm a homebody...

love (& prayers to all who need 'em),

For the first time in a long time i filled up today. $75.00 for my SUV. But I have so many errands to run tommorrow that I've put off again and again because of being sick. I just hate to run out that full tank then can't afford to even put 10 gallons in my tank to take my son to school in the morning. I got it for $3.57 a gallon but understand all the Gas stastions in Leeds are at $4.00 or more. Oh well, I never have luck so this is just one for the books. I hate that other people are affected by it too.
