Yes, Satan did appear as a snake and deceived Eve, thus sin entered the world. However, as a general rule, snakes are not evil. I have a pet snake and I am not opposed to certain types of snakes roaming free in my yard as they do help control the rodent population. I guess, this would mean that all who are not rats should not fear snakes. Of course, my favorite bird is an owl and they will eat both rats and snakes.
