Hello I am a 20 yrs old and i attend Judson College and I had lap band on May 12th.Everything is going great. But I am having a serious problem with hair loss. It just started about six weeks ago. Everytime i wash my hair or comb it i have at least a handfull of hair that fell out sometimes more.  The past two weeks I have been taking Biotin 1000 mg in the morning and at night but it does not seem to help.

Please Help!

Hey Heather!!!
How is it being back at school?? I know you are glad to be back.

I know what you are talking about.. you know how my hair has thinned out!!
Try using biotin shampoo too but know in a few months this should pass too.

I am praying for you and I know you are going to have a great year!!!!

Hello Heather and welcome!  Unfortunately, what you're going through is normal.  BUT, the more protein you get in and the better you do with your vitamins and hydration, the less time you will lose your hair.  Keep up the biotin.  It will take time.  But don't stop taking it.  My hair loss started at about 3 months out and only lasted about 6 weeks.  Then it started coming back in really well.  You are about on track for it to have started happening.  Again, the better you take care of yourself, vitamins, hydration and protein, the less time your hair will fall out.  It might help to get a shorter haircut if you're worried about the hairloss becoming evident to other people.  I've also heard that Nioxin hair products (which you can get at the salon in Wal-mart, I believe) can help make your hair look and feel thicker!

Hi Heather!
Welcome to the Bama Board.
I totally agree with what Kay said.  My hair came out, but it was only for a very brief time.  I was and still am very faithful in taking my vitamins daily.
Hope this helps you.

Hey Heather.  Just wanted to say first, CONGRATULATIONS on being banded!  I know you are doing great with the weight loss!  Hair falling out is a bad side affect of WLS.  It will grow back though.  Just keep taking your boitin.  I've heard many say that when their hair comes back, it is thicker and healthier than ever!

WELCOME ALSO TO THE BAMA BOARD!!
