DebbieDoo...
IM A !!!! I just got home from my RIDE motorcycle riding class. I had a BLAST! Granted, yesterday I was a little nervous but as the day progressed I was OK. I had great instructors and believe me this makes a difference. No, I didn't do all exercise PERFECTLY but did ATTEMPT them. The scariest ones for me were the U-Turn and the 360. Most of the motorcycles used were 250cc with one 125cc. Today, I had to go to the 125cc due to clutch issues on my 250cc, but I really enjoyed it once I warmed up to yet another bike. What school are you attending?? The one I took was RIDE and once you graduate from his class you can go back any weekend there is a bike available and retake the class FREE of charge.
FYI: TAKE AND USE SUNSCREEN!!!
Let me know when you take your class.

Hi Beth,
I've been out of town but when I got home last night I found my packet and I was so excited to know that I'm now definitely accepted for my training this weekend. We will be having our classes in the evening here in Montgomery at the Dept. of Transportation. Friday night is just instructional and then Saturday night and Sunday night will be actual training on the bikes. I'm very nervous about this because last Saturday when Leo was just pushing me around on the motorcycle, I was too afraid to try to balance. We are going to work together quite a bit Thursday and that will be make me feel a lot more comfortable when I go on Friday night. Did you have any problem at all with balancing?? I can ride a regular bike so I don't know why I'm so nervous about balancing the motorcycle.
I'm so glad you graduated and hopefully I can say the same thing this time next week!!!!

DebbieDoo,
My FIRST and FOREMOST suggestion is to RELAX AND HAVE FUN! Once you are relaxed and having fun ALL else is GRAVY!! Now, my suggestions to you for balance is to keep your "chin up" and that balance on a motorcyle is from chest up! Look at the horizon and remember this...the motorcyle WILL go wherever YOU are looking! Honestly, if you will keep your chin up and look where you want to go you will be OK. The "gray area" will be YOUR bestest buddy(get Leo to explain this to you). I actually "dropped" my bike on Saturday afternoon. As I stopped in formation, went to put my kickstand down and my boot lace got hung up on it. I snatched it and when I did over came the bike. I was SO embarrassed! I didn't let that moment ruin the rest of the training. I got up and started all over again...DONT BE AFRAID. Is Leo going to stay with you during you training? My friend stayed with me the whole time and it helped me. Actually, he has been put on RIDE's staff and will instruct on his weekends off. If you are intertested in R.I.D.E. Motor School www.ridemotorschool.com. Joe Langenbacker is the GREATEST and SWEETEST Instructor. He has so much passion for what he does and wants to see riders be safe while having fun. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at [email protected].
Keep me posted!

Beth,
Tonight is my first class and I am so nervous. Leo took me out yesterday and I coasted in neutral down a few small slopes but turning through me for a loop. I can't imagine trying to make a U-turn or a 360 turn - do they go over this with you quite a bit before actually making you do it? And the cones??? I can't' even imagine trying to go through them. It literally scares me to death and I know I've got to get over the fear. Were there any out of your group that had difficulty with any or all of the above? What if you just can't do it - do you fail the course? Sheesh, I guess you can tell I'm a bundle of nerves. HELP!!! Also, yesterday was the first time I've ever work over the ankle shoes and they are so much heavier than regular tennis shoes - they really made me feel unsure of my feet. I can't feel the way I want too because they are so much thicker than regular shoes. I've been to dozens of shoe stores looking for something that is more comfortable but its not out there - not in leather which is what they perfer. Were you already used to your shoes?

DebbieDoo,
I am sure you are a bundle of nerves, but you will do just fine! Turning for me was the WORST and I was TERRIFIED. You will be amazed at what you can really do! LISTEN to your instructors and while in line waiting your turn OBSERVE everyone else. In the class I was enrolled in if you did not complete "braking" then by all means you would fail the class. As far as the boots, I started wearing mine over a year ago, so I was already used to them. I bought mine at Academy Sports. They are BATES stock #02261. I wear mine almost daily. These boots are leather and come up quite high on legs. I am waiting on a call to see if RIDE has a bike available for me to ride this weekend. I have finals next week so probably need to stay home and study MORE...heck I need some relaxation though. We geared up for a ride yesterday but my virago is still running rich so it was sputtering too bad to ride it. We are hoping to find a mechanic to take it to and have it checked. We're beginning to wonder if there is an electrical issue going on...sure is NOT the carbs because we have rebuilt and cleaned those things seven or eight times. Well, keep me posted on how you done in your class. Remember to have fun!

Hi Beth,
Well, I took my class and memaw (Pat) was in the same one. I really enjoyed Friday and Saturday and feel like I learned invaluable information and first hand experience. However, on Sunday I was so tense and scared till I did not finish the course. Once we started having to get our speed up I panicked and ran off into the weeds and bushes (fortunately it wasn't on the side with all the state vehicles). Anyway, that scared me so bad till I couldn't continue. BUT, I don't feel like a failure because I really did learn so much!!!! Leo and I will be taking the bikes out this weekend and will be working on turns and curves and I can go at a slower pace and get really comfortable with what I'm doing.
The boots I used weren't broke in very well and they had like a lip around the top which kept getting stuck on the clutch so that upset me to no end. And also my throttle kept getting stuck and that didn't make me feel any better. LOL I just had a lot going against me but I still enjoyed the part I completed and I feel like in a couple of months I want to go back and do the course again.
I'm so glad you did well. I didn't stay around long enough to see how Pat did but when I left she was hanging in there and doing great!!!! I was so proud of her.
Let me know how you keep doing!!

Debbie Doo,
Glad you had fun and learn some additional information. Try not to be too harsh on yourself and sure you will do fine later on when you feel more comfy with the speeds. If you try another class here is the one I attended here in Gulfport, MS. They have schools in Birmingham and Pelham. The link is http://ridemotorschool.com/catalog.php Joe and his instructors are WONDERFUL! Matter of fact, I will be going back to the RIDE school this weekend and HOPING Joe will have an extra bike for me to ride. I rode my motorcycle the other day, but still have some issues with it, so didn't make it too far. Well, keep practicing!!! OK guess I'd better get back to the books...my last finals are Wednesday. Then I can have a few days to relax before school starts again.
